Pulsatile tinnitus and food

I have had pulsatile tinnitus for some 2 years now. I have had a MRI scan and doppler test, but nothing of significance was found.

My question is, do any other members with pulsatile tinnitus notice a significant increase awareness/loudness of their tinnitus when they have eaten a large meal?

Hi Robert CLL, I certainly do, but only with a large meal.., like you I have PT (6 months) and have had an MRI and carotid doppler both of which showed nothing, my worst time of the PT day is in bed. I have noiticed though, that if I perform a valsalva monouvere, the tinnitus stops for 5 - 10 minutes allowing me to get back to sleep. Rgds

Hi. Thank you for the reply. I have not heard of valsalva monouvere and will try tonight and let you know the outcome. Regarding your PT are you following any other avenues of investigations?

Hi Robert, Just be careful with valsalva, don't blow too hard, you only have to make your both of your ears pop. I plan to have an MRA shortly. I sometimes thank that if I had never heard a thump thump in my ear I would not have focused so closely on it, chances are that I may have just "tuned in" to normal blood flow in my carotids? Cheers

Thank you for the reply. Is the MRA of the head and neck? Or chest as well?

Hi

I tried the valsalva monouvere technique, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

I have been dealing with pulsatile tinnitus with severe head pressure and a lot of other neurological symptoms. I had MRI Brain, MRA of Brain and will be having MRA of neck on Monday with contrast. I keep feeling like I am going to faint... I even get snare drum sound in ears to at times. Feels like the brain stem is in a spasm and ears too. It makes it hard to fall asleep and then I get woken up through the night with it to and feeling faint. Pressure in head and the pulsatile tinnitus is so bad. I wonder what is causing this. ENT so far says ears look good, no fluid seen after I had been referred to him for fluid in ears and eustacian tube dysfunction but he says they look good. Sent me for the MRI and MRA ruling out a retro choclear lesion. MRI of brain and MRA of brain were normal. Will see what results are with the MRA of neck once I get that done. I feel like I am going to drop dead. Even when I stop at a stop light I feel like I am moving backwards still at times. So scary.

Hi Robert, I have not found any connection with food and my P T which is on my left side. I do find that altering the pressure in my ear does help a lot but it never lasts that long. How are you doing now? Mine started about 3 months ago and it comes and goes. I have had all scans etc...and everything is normal so I am still searching for an answer....

Hi mmmgggsss. I am much the same as my experiences over the last 3 years. I found no solution to the issue, however, do try to manage my intake of foods which I believe make the problem worse.
