Hearing Aids for Tinnitus

I purchased hearing aids at a great cost. I am not convinced they are actually doing what they should. Friends and family are suggesting that I get my money back. I have had an irritated ear for 3 days and have not worn them. What are people's thoughts ,

Hi. If they don't suit you after a few days I feel sure any reasonable supplier will take them back. I was recommended to try white noise therapy and privately bought a suitable hearing aid. It also has not worked but I gave it three months so do not expect to be able to take it back. My supplier though is working with me to try and get the best out of it. Good luck.

You should be NHS audio they programme hearing aids to your own individual specification they certainly help me

Some people do experience issues with the materials used in hearing aid earpieces. I would certainly talk to your audiologist and see what alternative earpieces they can provide or suggest for you. I'm not sure that I thought clearly about the £4500.00 price tag. I was in a dark place and was looking for a solution. I'm not sure if NHS ones would be available.

I have worn a hearing aid in my left ear for a year. I found that using a smaller tip caused less irritation. My ear was intially itchy as I adjusted to having a hearing aid but this subsided after a short period and now I don't notice it. It may also help to have your audiologist make some adjustment to that amount of gain if the sound volume is annoying. I had mine adjusted so lound sounds are less amplified.

Just like you I spent $4,000 for my hearing aids with mastic noise. Sometimes they help some if you're not thinking about it, but other times you can still hear the noise.

£4.5k is top end for hearing aids, so if you are at all unsure or unhappy you should go back to your provider. You've paid a premium price, presumably for a premium product, so it should be backed up with premium service.

TBH, I'd recommend sticking with the NHS for hearing aids. Their provision for tinnitus is sorely lacking, but it's difficult to argue when it comes to HA's. Private providers will promise you the earth and try to convince you that NHS aids aren't as good, but that's just a morally lacking sales pitch in my experience.

I'm somewhat disappointed with my HA's although there are times I'm glad when I have them. I have a 90 day money back guarantee

Hello I have had high pitch problems and ti. Its for 4 years now I have 2 NHS hearing aids which help a bit with the tinnitus n hearing problems I would ask if the aids you have can be adjusted or tuned mine have been done twice now hope this is of help to you

I have messaged you privately, but in my opinion it’s best to go down the NHS route. Their hearing aids are very good these days, plus you get free back up and free batteries. The ones I’ve got now (I’ve messaged you make and model) also have built in tinnitus maskers. When my t has been bad in the past I’ve used this feature and it works really well.

I seriously would get your money back, I’ve tried private ones and my NHS ones are far better.

Hello Rocketmantom. Just seen your post. It seems to be a lottery with NHS hearing aids. I have T in both ears with just slight hearing loss. Not enough for hearing aids but a kid doctor issues two that can be used as masking devices. They are programmed to play either white or brown noise. They talk to each other so when I adjust one, it switches the other.

Two audiologists had turned me down but a doctor said that if it helped 1% then it was worth having. The volume magnification has been disabled, for now, but can be reactivated when my hearing gets worse.

As mentioned. It is a lottery as to the help we get.

I too have a mild to moderate slight hearing loss in the higher frequency.

I have Livio AI private ones. Lots of settings ; the audiologist has set one up with masking that's a mixture of 3 sounds.

Been for a run this evening and there's a spike in my right ear - weirdly when I initially had T it was only in the left.

Hows the Neuromod thing going ?

Not great. i posted an update a few weeks ago. it caused my t and Hyperacusis to go through the roof. I have been back to Ireland where it has been re programed. It is not working for me at all. Things are the worse that they have been. They reckon my audio nerve is hyper sensitive.

I ll do fuller feedback at the weekend.

Sometimes just wearing aids helps tinnitus. Only a few brands provide for the noise notch feature. Others introduce white or grey noises to sooth the tinnitus.
