Two tones

Okay I know I’ve put up about distractions etc but now I’m going a little crazy. Im lying here watching television and noticed that my ear which has always been a single tone has suddenly become two. Ones a low tone and the other is a high pitched one. Not super loud but enough to notice. Im feeing a little peeved now. I’m hoping it’ll go back to one tomorrow or through the night but two?

Why does it seem anytime I manage to get a hook on it the damn thing has to change? Two tones in one ear? Same! As if it isn’t bad enough.

And yeah I’m feeling a little down now. I mean the distraction stuff was working I was getting back into the swing of things and now this! Could do with a little support any right now because I’m ticked off.

Hi , I know how you’re feeling right now . Hopefully the other tone will die down for you .

I developed a new tone about 10 days ago in each ear . The right side sounding like a motor on the refrigerator and the left side sounds like the old fashioned test card screen when the BBC has finished broadcasting. I also have high pitched fire alarms, going off in my head 24/7 with static electricity sounds ...

I’ve been prescribed clonazepam to calm things down , but my first dose yesterday, did absolutely nothing , only make it louder ! ....

Let’s live in hope for us , that these tones will just die down and allow us some peace .

Try and not give it any attention, it’s easier said than done , though ..... take care Z x

Thanks. Yh I’m hoping it’ll die down. I was offered medication a few weeks back to try and help but I was worried about the Ear Demon (t) having a reaction so I swore off it and was doing good until the new sound. I’ll soldier through. Just the first time I’ve had two and my reaction was bad but I’ll get there. I’m lucky it’s all in one ear couldn’t imagine it in both.

I find mine is constant but there are shifts and changes throughout the day. I can get sudden loud noises that sound/feel like something heavy dropping. At night changing sleep position can also have an impact.

See mine changes in volume and pitch at random. Doesn’t matter what I do it just changes. I’ve tried things like sleeping a certain way and changing my diet and all that but it never made a difference.

Hi again. I’ve replied but just seen one your posts regarding volume etc. My normal t is a constant loud swarm of bees which has always been there the same. Now reluctantly use hearing aids it competes but returns same when take out n don’t always use as can just bout cope without unless in company. This more recent n seemingly permanent second thing which described as siren is prob higher pitched than that like the highest pitch loudest sound can imagine and makes me temp totally deaf. Don’t know wether it’s the t blocking sound or perhaps some temp blip with circulation or summat. It does always calm down and since very first hearing test nothing has changed on audiograph. I’m bemused and curious now bout the t cos that has changed so appreciate keep me posted any new finds.

I will. It’s the same at the minute just hoping it’ll settle. Hearing aids didn’t help me. Didn’t make much difference so didn’t use them after a week. I’m sure it made the sound a little worse to be honest but can’t be sure.

Any changes and trust me I’ll post lol.

I went on a mindfulness meditation course once did not work for me when I explained to the turtor that just when I am getting to the stage of getting into a zone my T changes it could be volume or tone or both she said she not had to deal with any body with T before and understood how hard it must make.i still do it every day still no luck 4 years now.if mine stayed constant I could cope better

Keep in there

I use the distraction technique. Reading, doing crosswords, watch television or going for a walk. That has always helped me so I’m hoping it’ll work if the new tone sticks around (although I’m reaaaallllyy hoping it’ll get lost lol)

That's what is happening to me.can't explain why.

Neither can I. I think this happened before to me but it calmed down a few days later so I’m holding hope. I put the blame on my gp.

I went to them with an ear infection and was told it’ll pass come back in 7 days went back and was given some drops then went back 7 days and given antibiotics then went back two days in agony with the noise and demanded not asked but demanded to see a different doctor and that doctor did this: Swabbed for tests to find out what it was. Gave me the strongest drops he could for an ear infection. Set up an emergency appointment with the ent at Lewisham and within a matter of weeks I was seen and cleaned and even the ent told me that it could’ve been done so much quicker when I first got it if they had taken a swab. I changed doctors after that so it was her fault.

I’m lucky my ent (not audiologist) has Tinnitus in both ears and understood what I was going through. Said he could give me tips and said “you can live a happy life and you can get used to it eventually” he had it in both ears at a 8 out of 10 but said he was happy and living life as he would normally he can even be in a silent room.

Hi there

Yea mine similar. Have always had loud buzzing in both ears/head n from when can remember I’d also get a high pitch siren go off suddenly coupled with feelin like completely deaf but gradually would go back to the usual. I now have the both permanently but this has gradually happened over maybe 20 years or so. As it’s been gradual I’ve just got used to it and the constant is nowhere near as loud as when suddenly decides to go mad. I’ve never questioned too much really because I thought normal til young adult n not like I’d ever known different n just accepted. Hope things are calming down a bit for you and if like for self it may just be a temporary thing. When the siren decides go mad it sometimes takes couple days to calm down but never stays at that level tho over all this time has decided just to be there in background. It’s a weird thing and seems different for everyone n seems have mind of own. It’s only recently I’ve really quizzed it. I know can be so annoying and I often wonder what complete silence is like cos when first realised not everyone had these noises it really got on nerves. I just accept as part of me now and as loud as is I mostly forget it’s there. Hope gets easier for you cos from what can see it’ can sometimes do different things but not necessarily stay that way.

Good luck for quieter times 😸🐈🐾

Thanks and I’m hoping it’ll settle eventually. It can be okay if I’m busy or distracted which is what I lean on so I’m coping at the minute. We that’s all we can do really lol.

Here’s hoping one day there’s a magic pill that gives us silence back 😁.

Hi there,

Just a quick hello and wondered how things are going and if things have calmed down a bit. I’ve had a proper cold this last week and the T thing went but mad for few days but back normal. Not moaning tho cos really most time it don’t bother me at all. Have ad as long as remember and didn’t even know about n thought everyone had so didn’t even need accept I suppose. Have empathy tho when someone acquires it having never had and the stress it causes people. In that respect if was gonna ave the damn thing then am thankful it’s been there all life as nypt known different. Hope things improving for you and let me know how getting on.

Kind regards julia xxxx

Hi thankfully the new tone settled then went. I still have the usual t which doesn’t bother me most days. It’s in the background. I mean it’s still pretty loud but I’ve managed to kick it back and get back to normal life. I’m reading and watching tv etc so back to the stuff I was worried I’d not do again but thankfully it’s pretty good going at the moment.

My niece has it she has glue ear but she thinks everyone has it too so her parents asked the school not to say they don’t so she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong.

Hi again

Am glad it’s calmed a bit. Like you I sometimes really notice it is pretty load but it’s does seem fade into background sort and don’t concentrate on it. When I first learned bout in teens I suppose it really cheesed me off. However in not too much time just became almost forgotten most time. I think for sure that time helps adjust n get used to it. I think of all other things people deal with and am just grateful so far that am able get around and have the freedom to enjoy stuff in life. Best of luck and hope it don’t interfere too much with life.

Love Julia 😻🐈🐾
