Hello everyone,

My name is James. I have tinnitus and am hard-of-hearing. I am also a lecturer in Psychology, and a tinnitus researcher. My activity on this site waxes and wanes but we’re coming to the end of the academic year now (no more lectures) so I am hoping to turn back to my research. In the hope that people on the site will be interested in participating, I have information on two separate studies for you.

The first is a simple online survey concerning your first meeting with a healthcare professional (about your tinnitus). The second aims to deliver (free) mindfulness therapy online. It will require a little more commitment, but will also provide online resources for you to make use of.

You do not have to live in or near Leeds/Bradford in order to participate.

Details follow.

James.

(1) This first study is a short online survey. Permissions to advertise on this site have been granted by the BTA (Nic Wray). If interested, simply contact me by email.

------

Leeds Trinity University is currently undertaking a study into the relationship between healthcare satisfaction and tinnitus distress. The research aim is to explore the possible relationship between a person’s first interaction with a healthcare professional (about their tinnitus) and their current tinnitus distress, by way of an online survey). The hypothesis is that better initial medical contact will result in better tinnitus outcomes, with aims being to help inform patients’ treatment after initial diagnosis and to reduce tinnitus-associated distress. We have almost completed the study but need just a few more people. So if you fit the following criteria, we'd love to hear from you.

Must:

a) Be aged 18 or over.

b) Have a diagnosis of tinnitus.

Preferred:

c) Have had an audiogram in the last two years and are willing and able to share this (not essential).

To take part, simply email me on J.Jackson@leedstrinity.ac.uk and I'll send you a survey link. All you would need to do is click on this. Alternatively, I've also created a paper copy of the survey which you can ask for (all paper copies are sent out with a self-addressed and stamped envelope to return the survey in). The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

(2) This second study will ask you to engage with (free) mindfulness therapy resources online, over the course of six to eight weeks. Permissions to advertise on this site have been granted by the BTA (Nic Wray). If interested in finding out more, please contact Chloe directly.

-----

Leeds Trinity University is also undertaking a study into the impact of a mindfulness intervention on tinnitus distress. Mindfulness has been evidenced to work for many individuals, though not all, so this study aims to explore individual differences that may be influencing the impact of mindfulness as an intervention. It is hoped that this could enhance the development of more individual, person-centred treatment plans.

Must:

a) Be aged 18 or over.

b) Have a diagnosis of tinnitus.

c) Not currently participating in professional therapy (tinnitus).

Preferred:

c) Have had an audiogram in the last two years and are willing and able to share this (not essential).

If you fit the above criteria and are interested in taking part, please email Chloe Woolmer on 1302752@leedstrinity.ac.uk and I will send you further information about the study.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Hello everyone,

Happy Easter - thus far.

I thought I would *bump* this request. I am up to 91 participants now, to thank you to those of you who volunteered your time. Almost completed. However, I would likie to take the opprtunity to give a boost to Chloe and her research.

If you are interested in being guided through some Mindfulness therapy online, do please email her and ask for more information.

Best wishes,

James.

Hello James

Glad to know that you are doing research on tinnitus. You may clssify tinnitus into two.one ear lnduced and the other induced in the brain.if it Is confined to either one ear or one side of th brain it is theoretically possible to eliminate the malady by simply removing the affected part and live with the other half.

I have been living with it for 33 years now. I can write my ordeal all these years but people don't take it seriously.

Regards. Kalyanin
