Diet and T?

Last week was barbeque weekend. W3 go buy as many as a dozen steaks, ribs, hot dogs, and I grill these some to eat that day or within a few days and others to freeze for later.

I indulged and ate red meat for a few days in a row then my tinnitus was off the scale screaming. The worse ever. No escape from the ringing. It took a few days of avoid meat to return to the unpleasant range I have tolerated a few decades.

Has anyone else found links between food or spices and increase in the volume or severity of tinnitus

Hi, Ducdadday,

So far I've not found any correlation between tinnitus and anything I ingest. I have experimented by cutting out coffee and spicy foods, then after a few days giving myself a strong hit of flavors - thankfully, since I love both caffeine and spices, no effect. Alcohol in moderation is also no problem. I suppose if you find something that does affect your T, try cutting it out then re-introducing it a bit at a time. At least you can savor the taste and, maybe, even build up a tolerance to it.

Respectfully submitted,

Keoni

Thank you Keoni,

My only or first notice of increased ringing was after the red meat for a few days - I would say too much in a short period of time. Then is normalized. I also stopped coffee for a month for other reasons and it had no affect on my sounds. I just wish I could make the sounds to my liking :)

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum ducdaddy. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

It's unusual for food to cause fluctuations in tinnitus, but we usually say everything in moderation and if all the meat was something of a change to your usual habits, it might have just upset your system a little.

You can find out more about food and tinnitus in our factsheet: tinnitus.org.uk/food-drink-...
