Hi all,

I've been diagnosed for around 2 yrs now, have seen a respiratory physiotherapist and been on an exercise plan. However I still have trouble clearing the mucus from my chest.

Been thinking of buying a nebulizer to try does any one use one please?

Thanks

Hi there,

I have a nebuliser for my asthma, but I haven't used it in a mucus clearing context. However, I have heard that nebulising saline can be helpful in breaking down mucus and then expelling it and lots of people with Bronchiectasis use it. I would ask your respiratory physio or doctor about it.

There are also other mucus clearing devices like the flutter device, you can buy through amazon.

Hey Sean

I am also looking at buying a nebuliser for the same reason. I have found in the meantime, however, that having a really hot shower and breathing in the steam also helps to loosen mucus. Hopefully this can help you feel a bit more comfortable in the interim.

Do you have trouble clearing your lungs because the mucus is too thick and sticky?

Mine was too thick to clear through physio alone, the specialist told my GP to put me on Mycodyne which makes the mucus thinner and easier to cough.

Sounds gross but unfortunately an everyday chore for us 😊

Also I believe in some areas you can get a flutter device in the NHS
