I have a cold and feel great!

I have had atopic eczema for about 14 years. I'm a 43 year old male. I've noticed over the past few years that whenever I have a cold my skin gets better. Where I'm clear my skin feels like it has a sheen to it and the dry cracked areas start to heal and I have less desire to pick and scratch. I know that this time next week I'll be back to normal (with eczema)

I always take lemsip for my colds and was wondering if there could be something in the lemsip that clears me up? The only other thing I can think of is that I clear up as my body fights the virus itself. Am I alone?

  • Ooh that's interesting......wonder what's in Lemsip that makes it work!

  • If only I knew. Next time I'm not feeling so good I'm going to take lemsip for a few days and see how things go. I'll keep you all informed....

  • Lemsip contains paracetamol and pseudoephedrine, neither would have any effect on your eczema. It seems to me that your increased immune response may be helping your eczema. If you wish to increase your immune capability just give up milk and milk products also give up products containing wheat and relax. It will take about a month for your body to respond. It works for me.

  • I've never been a milk drinker. I'm fussy with dairy products. I always have dry bread for sandwiches. Black coffee or tea but I do like a think slab of cheddar.

I'll try and cut out all dairy as i have read this can be a problem quite a few times recently. I'll see how it goes.

  • Hi Jack---be strict,no cheese or dairy products. No bread unless gluten free. Patersons oat cakes are a good substitute, museli is ok as is rice, nuts, chicken. You will get used to it and feel so much better.

  • The best thing would be to keep a "food diary". For example, have no dairy products at all for a week and then try one thing like milk. See how your skin reacts and then try cheese and so on. As we are all different, some foods will aggregate some eczema sufferers but may suit another. I'm definitely putting Lemsip on my shopping list LOL. Has anyone else heard of the good effects of Ostrich Oil products. There is a website that sells soaps, washing products and creams . I have not tried them yet as they are expensive but wondered if I should take a chance?

  • Did anyone see food hospital on TLC channel in the UK? Se2 ep1 poor kid with atopic eczema all over. I'm crying watching him scratch his face. He's been told to cut out milk. My wife watched it last night and said there is a great improvement after a few weeks.

I'm over my cold and starting to feel dry again.

  • 9 days with no dairy. I'm really bad at the moment. Had a restless night scratching.
