Loss of balance

Hi lovely people, looking for advice. Hubby started feeling light headed and losing his balance. Falling part way downstairs becoming a daily occurrence.

Is this a sign of HE? Or just another symptom of ARLD?

Also funny smell, rather like a nursing home - stale odour.

Feeling more and more like a carer every day.

Good night all!

Another good sleepless night. Loss of balance can be associated with HE. I don't lose my balance, but I have a slight incoordination and sometimes stumble when walking like a robot or a zombie as said someone I know. Stale odour also called "fetor hepaticus" from the skin and from the mouth is due to the release of intestinal toxins from the lungs and skin. I also have this simptom. Sometimes more sometimes less but never gone completely for about five or six years. Is your husband taking treatment for HE?

Thank you Fibro2021, so far not taking anything for HE. I'm awake now as he fell again going to bathroom. Definitely a call to GP at 9am.

I have had similar since I came out of hospital 2 years ago after icu with liver failure and pneumonia. Unsteady on my feet, loss of balacance, clumsiness and a few falls. It could be the ARLD itself or maybe the effects of HE (constantly suffering from constipation) . I'm also on gabapentin for peripheral neuropathy although I'm still waiting to see a neurologist. The waiting list has now doubled from 26 to 47 weeks so won't be seen till february. Let us know how you get on. Holly x

Poor you Holly, that's miserable. I'm taking hubby to GP shortly so hopefully get some advice and/or earlier referral to specialist.
