Struggling now

My Husband is now in a care home following a massive bleed which left him near death. He was diagnosed with liver disease in February 2019 and given 6 months to live. I have looked after him since this diagnosis at home but when he had the massive bleed and was taken to hospital I realised I couldn’t cope anymore hence the reason he is now in a care home.

He has always been in denial and kept fighting even though he was in pain. He refused to attend any appointments following his diagnosis and refused every offer of help and equipment which I found hard to understand.

He has now reached the stage where he doesn’t know me and I am falling apart on the inside but try to seem like I’m coping on the outside. He has to have everything done for him and is being hoisted as he can no longer walk.

Why does he keep fighting when he can’t beat this and he is just wasting away!

I don’t have much support and would like some advice on what stage he is at. He is only 67 and never drunk alcohol.

Thank you. He had always taken lots of medication and the worst one was Naproxen which he stopped after the consultant told him to urgently.
