Sorry but may I have a moan

My husband has some Zopiclone tablets to help him sleep. Originally he was prescribed the 7.5 mg but the zonked him out so he was prescribed the 3.75mg one every other day if necessary.

Well he started to have two but is was maybe every 4th/5th night but and I have been keeping a check he has taken two every other night. Last night I tried to say you should only take one and his reasoning is that he was prescribed the stronger does so he can take two. He would not have it and we ended up falling out over it. He is not talking to me to day as I am making his life a misery. I am wrong if I say nothing and wrong of I do.

Sorry just needed to get that off my chest

Please be really careful with sleeping tablets and dosage. If you have concerns please contact the GP and get some safe advice.

Hi, i have been down this route myself, i may be different but i started taking zopiclone when prescribed by the docs and before i knew it i was ordering packets full from some legit and some not so legit websites. To be honest at the time i just could not cope with anything so used them as something to hide behind, taking them during the day as well as at night and basically existing like a zombie, i was able to hide from all the pain and constant worry that hits you when you have such a life changing event. It took me a while to stop and basically this was because i was caught out. Once that had happened i stopped and things gradually got better, but its taken me a long time to get where i am today. One thing your hubby needs to bear in mind is that these sleeping tablets are very addictive and i found myself basically replacing one addiction with another, i guess i have an addictive personality although since then my only constant addiction appears to be ice, don't ask me why as i don't know but have if by the glass full :) ... i don't know your husband so could be wrong but for me sleeping was better than existing awake.

If your husband wants to talk to someone who has been though most things and, touch wood, is doing very well now you then you are more than welcome to pass on my name, sometimes it helps to speak to someone who "knows how it feels"

Take care

Chris

Chris, thank you so much his doctor pointed out that they are addictive that he didn’t really want to prescribe them but he wasn’t sleeping at all. I have just been accused of ruining his sleep last night. I think if I mention the tablets again he will shut me down.

I find 3.75 cut in half is all that is needed but beware long term use

Sometimes when he has taken two he still doesn’t sleep, well going to sleep isn’t his problem it is staying asleep. As Laura says though I need to pick my battles it has been so wearisome fighting the illness, the system and him x

Hi

I have had about 3 months worth prescribed over the past 18 months. I am aware it is very, very addictive so sometimes haven’t used it when I should have. In the end you get so tired that you sleep!

I suppose it depends on the situation. It is me deciding to be sensible. If hubby is being impossible unless he gets them and his general condition is such that it is better for him (relatively) and for you then I am sorry my love but regrettably he should use them. However I would absolutely let the gp know.

I suppose it all depends on how ill he is

Much love

Isabelle xx

Thanks Isabelle for your insight. I not sure how to gauge how ill he is, well he can’t be very good if he is being referred for a transplant assessment but how do you gauge this illness. He gets so fatigued and that seems separate to his lack of sleep he feels unwell but cannot explain how he feels but compared to others he doesn’t seem as bad but then I guess everyone is different.

I worry about this too. I am a terrible sleeper and in fact everything that I've gone through can be attributed directly to it.

I've been prescribed zopiclone in the past and didn't feel it did anything. I just can't sleep.

I've also played a dangerous game of mixing the nytol one a night sleep things with other over the counter stuff and after reading some horror stories I've just decided that this is the way it is. On average I reckon get about 4-5 hours over a night. It then eventually catches up with me and I seem to get 8 hours but only because my body is physically knackered. it's not healthy.

Hi Xenom0rph

What you describe is exactly what happens to my husband he seems to crash out during the day for short periods sometimes a couple of hours but it is very disturbed sleep. He is convinced when he does sleep it is because of the Zopiclone but I think he is just so exhausted that is why he gets to sleep through the night and sometimes a lot of the day too. The lack of sleep really messes with him and as you say a lot of things including some of his behaviour is due to sleep deprivation.

I do hope things get better for you x
