Another Cirrhosis Question

My husband has compensated cirrhosis and the cause is from fatty liver or Nash (not sure which it is). I’ve read that cirrhosis caused from alcohol and get better if you drinking. Is this the same for people who are obese with cirrhosis causes by fatty liver? My husband has lost 45 pounds over the past year and feels great. If he keeps losing weight, is it possible for him to stay compensated for the next 30-40 years?

The good news is that if he only has fatty liver then the chances are good that he can live a normal lifespan by continuing to follow a healthy lifestyle. The bad news is that if he has cirrhosis then he must have had NASH because fatty liver on its own is considered benign & doesn't lead to cirrhosis.

By resolving his fatty liver through gradual weight reduction & living a healthy lifestyle any NASH he has might go away but this is by no means certain. Once NASH starts it's hard to stop.

If his liver enzymes are normal as I presume they are for him to be compensated then his NASH might have resolved itself. The only way to know for sure is a biopsy.

HEY!!!! im back learned a ton!!!! on inspire in the US!!!! no posts yet!!!! i have almost 5 yrs of sobriety WASNT EASY DRANK FOR 30 YRS!!!! fully disabled. But yet doing well with alcoholic cirrhosis.had a bad spat with he. hepatic encecholpothy ya spellings bad ill get better!!!! i went from 230 down to 185lbs at 5 ft 8 in eating healthy on xifaxin in the states. im 51 want to live to 100!!!!!! hahaha!!!! sounds like u guys are doing the right things!!!!! I have liver cirrhosis due to fatty liver. I had bariatric surgery ( stomach bypass) and lost 8 stone. 2 years on and it seems my liver is starting to recover. I also cut out alcohol when diagnosed. So I agree with other replies. Healthy life style and no alcohol could help lead to a longer life. It's a scare so take notice.
