Sorry if inappropriate and I know you cannot give medical advice but has anyone accidentally taken too many Rifaximin.
Let me explain I have taken to putting my husband’s meds out in little pots morning lunchtime evening as I am at work all day and despite now working from home have kept the habit. I was woken this morning as my husband was having a very confused episode and got caught short going for a pee anyway long story short I realised he had taken the morning meds and the evening one so has had one extra Rifaximin and one extra anti-nausea. He denies all,knowledge. Obviously I will only put out the morning ones in future.

If you are worried phone out of hours, I'm sure they will be able to advise you. Just taking one extra I would have thought would be ok but you are better checking. Does he have a liver nurse you could phone tomorrow . What is the rifaxomin for if you don't mind me asking? Take care and stay safe. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
We are 'social distancing', hubby has obviously got cirrhosis due to auto immune liver disease, a compromised spleen and on steroids so we've shut the door and arn't going out unless it's just for some local fresh air or for when I absolutely need to go shopping.
I had to cancel all my school workshops - a decision i'd taken the day before schools up here closed anyway. I got text message yesterday 'calling up' the Special Constabulary (of which i've been a member for 18 years) but have had to say I can't be deployed - can't risk potential exposure to covid-19. Scary times!
Hubby currently in bed with a cold - yes, just a cold (I hope) - runny nose and productive cough - no fever, aches and pains and no dry cough.
Hope all,ok with you. I have managed to go all over the winter in the office and no cold. I start working from home and guess what I have a cold and it really is a cold ☹️
No he doesn’t have a liver nurse and the gp who is on the ball with him only works Thursday and Friday he hasn’t exceeded his daily dose but taken two at once.
Hi, I have just checked hubbies Rifaximin/Targaxan instructions and it says:-
If you take more Targaxan than you should
If you take more than the recommended number of tablets, even if you do not notice any problems, please contact your doctor. (As it's the weekend you're going to struggle and no doubt 111 is overwhelmed and probably has not knowledge of rifaximin).
As it's only one, he's in effect taken a dose too early - don't put any more out for him later. Learning point to be taken on board, when they are confused we do need to be careful with meds. I have to check hubbies if he's put them out (or do them myself) to make sure they are ok.
It is his confusion that is worrying me but I think being referred to the assessment team has made it “real” for him and he is worrying about it. He has been suffering with depression and anxiety for a couple of years and when thing get too much he has a tendency to shut down. If I call the GP tomorrow the good doctor won’t be on and the last,thing I want is to be told go to A&E.
