Early stage of fibrosis

Over the past 2.5 years I've had 5 sets of liver function tests (normal), 2 ultrasounds (normal), 2 fibroscans (5.4kpa and 3.3 kpa) and an ELF test of 7.95 (borderline moderate fibrosis). My ELF tests came through today with a report which I feel has helped clear a few things up. My liver is just at the stage where its inflamed and is stating to become fibrotic. I have hammered it in every single way in my 37 years and only since its showed symptoms have I made any attempt to do anything about it and I know I can (and will) do even more. It's become clear to me that you can have some cirrhosis symptoms without your liver being cirrhotic. It's the same as people complaining of the liver itch but their bilirubin is within range. I think as it starts to struggle you can have a lot of symptoms, obviously I'm by no means and expert but I think it's been difficult for me to imagine anything other than cirrhosis because of my sweating, fever, chills, itch, oily stools, cramping limbs, bile taste in mouth and more. But I've realised there's a window in between when you still have time to change. I hope im right, Its up to me now. I really want to thank everyone who replied to me, some quite ill or nursing a loved one. This is such a lovely online community x

Hi Liberty82

I will put myself in same category like yours.I had been in great dilemma where to start whether I have put my liver to the point it can never return or it's simple a low scale imflammation .But regarding symptomes kept on increasing ...When I told my hepatologist regarding my symptomes and sets of diagnosis which I had he simply put me on anxiety meds and told that he is pretty much sure I don't have any liver disease of any kind ...I am only 30 .Two years back I was in pre diabetic scale and my liver enzymes were elevated. I did not care much about that as I was symptome free and after an year my symptomes aggravated to loss of appetite ,loss of muscle mass ,insomnia ,hair loss which is pretty much like symptomes of cirrhosis .I had an fibroscan test at that time which was 7.4 kpa which put me in f2 category. After changing to liver friendly diet lots of coffee olive oil I again went to have fibroscan, ARFI along with regular CBC ,LFT which was all normal..I regained muscle my muscle mass ...Now only I have is loss of appetite and insomnia .....

Symtomes which had nearly disappeared are

1.RUQ pain

2.loss of muscle mass

3.weakness and lethargy

4 stool changes

Symtomes I am currently struggling is

1.insomnia

2.loss of appetite (not that bad)

3.loss of hair (now my hairs are growing back)

Sorry for my bad English as it is not my native

Yes, kuda it seems we are in fairly similar situations. The symptoms were scaring the life out of me and its put me off trying for a baby for the past 3 years, now I've left it a lot later than I wanted to. People were sick with me talking about my liver because my tests were normal but you know your own body and I knew my symptoms were telling me something. I'm hoping to reverse the damage I've done but I'm guessing it will be a fairly long process because mine are getting worse, not better. I hope your symptoms continue to improve, it sounds like you are doing the right things x

Hi liberty , with the right steps you can reverse this. If your scans and bloods are good then moderate changes to diet and exercise regime should help a lot. You can definitely have symptoms and clear scans - trust me. But these things take time- it's a long game. Best wishes k

Hi there

So you can have normal LFT’s with fibrosis???
