Weakness

Started feeling much better but got weakness in my arms and legs. I'm hoping you lovely guys can tell me if there's anything I can do to combat this. I can't cope with it

Hi Chris. Do you have any light hand weights? Or even fill a couple of bottles with water and do some bicep curls, tricep extentions, alternating shoulder presses etc to gradually build the muscle strength back up in your arms. For your legs, try lunges, squats, walking and cycling...... not ideal while the weather's as it is but hey spring is on its way!!. There are lots of muscle strengthening exercises you can do, but would take forever for me to explain how to do them on here as you do need to make sure they are done correctly to avoid injury. Have a look on line at exercise dvds. I recommend the strength building ones by Kelly Coffey Meyer.... ideal for men and women, start with light weights and increase as and when you feel stronger. You do need to think positively and be motivated to get started in order to get rid of the weakness, it won't go on its own.

It's not a weakness like u think, I went to super market and my legs felt like jelly. Like they was going to buckle. Sometimes it goes then comes back. It's horrible. Never had nothing like that before. I'm wondering if it's the grade 3 fatty liver what's causing it.. Apparently I've got a severe amount of fat in my liver. X

Yeah but I get it sometimes soon as I wake up in the morning. Going to the toilet at home. It does mention weakness with severe fatty liver. And cirrhosis. But doesnt explain in what context. I have no muscle waist age.

Have they addressed vitamin deficiency / possible nerve damage subject to alcohol.

It's called staggering a symptom particular with the legs, damage to nerves in feet also. May or may not be reversed. In my case it came back. I did have muscle wastage legs arms etc earlier on. Couldn't take on stairs, unsteady on feet, walking in a straight line sober? Kneeling down couldn't get up. Rocking to get up off the chair or bog. ? 🤔

Wow .... that's really bad. My hubby had it too but not as bad as that, just ignoring it, working through it with daily walks got rid of it til he became too to do anything

Think I caught myself on in time. Well almost still got Cirrhosis for my sin's.

My unsteadiness when walking is due to peripheral neuropathy.I stagger when walking 'cause I can't feel my feet....totally numb......smallest 3 fingers of each hand as well......makes job's that require dexterity, very difficult.

How did you know I have a stammer❓, does is sh sh sh show in my typing🤣. Seriously stammering does run in my family, my Da had it quite bad, and me just a wee bit.

Ditto David. Also have cerebral neuropathy. Did they ever check you for that? Really interesting - got shown the MRI scan and you can see lots of “white fluff” 😀 scattered all through the brain. Quite weird really.

Don’t ask you to walk in the dark, I bet! That’s an impossibility without having something to hold on to, eh 😀!

No Miles never been checked for cerebral neuropathy, the peripheral neuropathy is bad enough, although I've probably got lot of white fluff up top now, outside as well as inside😊. Yes I do need a prop to walk in the dark, as we have no street lights in the village, but at least I have a very powerful police type torch, and oncoming cars flash me on occasions😊

Don’t suppose you need a scan to see the fluff on the outside!!

What about walking around house at night with lights not switched on - I mean even to just get to the light switch! 😀

Yes, I do struggle to get to the little boys room in the dark, but i don't want to wake SWMBO. 🐉🐉🐉

I am not medically qualified in any way, but it sounds as though you should ask the doctor to check your vitamin D levels. Mine were very low and it caused my legs to buckle a few times, embarrassing.

Must add that to the list Boot! So far I’ve been talked with about that problem being possibly caused by my peripheral neuropathy, cerebral neuropathy, spinal stenosis and then cirrhosis was in the spaghetti somewhere at one time.

Back op was eventually decided upon but that really has done very little. Tbh I don’t even worry about it any more! Just get on as best I can.......as we all do, I’m sure 👍😀.

Interestingly though had my Vit D checked last week (someone on here said something about it - could even have been you Boot!!) and it has come back as Low. Someone is ringing me about it tomorrow- probably say buy some vit tablets 😀.

Agree. Check vit D. My legs were weak due to this.

This might sound strange, check your vitamin D levels. Apparently if they're low, this can lead to muscle and bone pain, which is a little scary. If you need a supplement, it is a very easy to take gel caplet.

Unsteadiness, dizziness, feeling dizzy or light-headed are common symptoms of stress, including the stress anxiety causes. Unfortunately, doctors often misdiagnose stress- and anxiety-related unsteadiness as a symptom of Vertigo or Meniere's Disease.

Vitamin D deficiency is not always caused by lack of sunshine, it is commonly low with liver disease, and affects how the muscles function. Here is an article that helps explain the connection.

I did suffer from staggering but god damn can't find where I came across the term. 🙄

Absolutely. Sounds like chrisr998 needs to find a more sympathetic ear, not everything just goes back to "normal" when you stop drinking, or cure Hep C, or both. I have been on a weekly vitamin D Rx strength tablet, now monthly, which makes me nervous. But they are monitoring it. Apparently obesity causes the body to sequester it, how bizarre. It is a wonder mine is low. But research is showing how important it is in certain diseases. All leading back to a healthy gut and metabolism.

Some of those hippies were really smart, huh? With their macrobiotic diets, yogurts and cough, cough, well you know. 😘💕

Far from it indeed. In fact I felt 100% worse after detox, but thankfully my symptoms improve as long as I behave for as long as.

I've cut my prescription B1 & B meds but do take my own D + the odd yogurt. 😇

Hi Chris

Like most I would recommend you speak with your GP as soon as possible as the last thing you want is to take a fall if your feeling a little unstable leg wise.

My husband has a vitamin B12 deficiency which came to light after his legs gave way a few years ago along with a temporary memory loss which did return after weekly vitamin B12 injections for around 12 months! He's now on B12 tablets for life.

I'm not saying this is what you have but you really do need to get yourself checked over!

Hi Chris, i had to cope with the weakness for ever a year after my massive bleed. At first it was unexplained then I noticed it got worst with certain foods and meds. Turned out vitamin b was my cause as well as too much carbs

Hello Chris,

Musclemass decreases with liverproblems, so take additional Magnesium and some hours later calzium ( or Vice versa). Vitamin D3 also is very important for us. Also try to do exercises.

Still tell your doctor about it and also ask if it is ok for you to take supplements.

Take care and don't give up.

Dear chris, it’s a real rocky road eh.

Your typical systematic as a good many of us are.

You probably won’t be able to compare with me as I’m now in my 70s, but until my diagnosis l was an active type who walked 3 .. 7 miles a day, swimming 3 times a week, dog walker, cycling gardening. The first thing to go .... arm’s and legs muscles, weakness. 😬ugh. Still it’s not been easy, but not giving up!!. Slowly but surely doing a little bit more each day I’ve got to the point of dog walking, regular short trips, extending slowly at the pool, with a treat of a Relaxing jacuzzi to follow. Managing all my household tasks, and even done a little gardening between the weather storm’s 🌧.

So chris don’t be getting so anxious and feeling depressed about it.

Put on your Happy Pants and be POSITIVE 🤣👍. Chrissie.
