elevated liver enzymes

Hello everyone,i am new here but I have been following your posts regularly and its amazing the kind of support you give to everyone here.. and I would like to ask for your advise.I have been going through elevated liver enzymes since Feb 2019..or even before as it was the first time I did an LFT.First off, i have never taken alcohol or any kind of drugs that have not been prescribed.I did an MRCP after the first LFT and everything was normal.I had an acute case of ulcerative colitis which was noticed after a colonoscopy exam.I need to mention that I had a continuous misdiagnosis for h.pylori and I took the pylori kit 6 times before my body reacted negatively to it.

except for itchiness now and then, and chest and arm pains' my body feels good but my LFT's according to the latest results are as follows:ALT-153.9,AST-73.2,ALP-440,GGT-476.Note that these tests have been within this range for a year now and although my enterologist had prescribed LIVERIL,the enzymes levels are not going down.

The doctor has booked me in for a liver biopsy on Thursday next week though.I hope for good news.

Here's hoping they find out what the issue is and you can get better. I also had a liver biopsy ...not so bad. The whole thing can be so stressful. Hugs and best wishes

Hello Guys,its such an amazing feeling interacting with you and its my hope that you are all taking care of yourselves.

I underwent a liver biopsy 2 weeks ago.I am sorry I kept quiet but it was a long arduous experience for me waiting for the results.

My LFTs were/are really high and being a teetotaller I was really confused.

The results of the biopsy came out on Saturday last week and I have Chronic hepatitis Grade 2 level 1 caused by Mesacol,a drug I have been taking since February 2019 for treatment of ulcerative colitis.

I am hoping for good results moving forward and thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement and love.

What are they going to do then given this diagnosis? Is there a Type of Hepatitis quoted, A, B or C?

Thank you for asking.

There was no specification on if it was Hepatitis A,B OR C. When it comes to etiological classification of chronic hepatitis, the causes are chronic infection with HBV, hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis D Virus( HDV),autoimmune reactions and drugs or toxins.

In such cases of drug-induced ,immune-mediated hepatitis, the inflammatory disease process declines when the drug is withdrawn.

The doctor has taken me off Mesacol and any other medication I have been on for the last 1 year.

I have been on LIVOLIN all along so I will still continue taking it.He has also prescribed prednisone for the duration of 1 month.

we also did LFTs before starting new medication for corticosteroids and we will do another LFTs after 1 month.

The LFTs that I did on Saturday show a really marked improvement on GGT-346,AST-342ALT-141,AST-100
