Returned cancer in Liver

Good morning, all!

It's been awhile since I posted about my wife and no one may remember me. We are from the States and have been going through the same things all of you have been going through. She's still waiting for a liver and has been on the transplant list for some time now.

She underwent a Y90 procedure a year and a half ago for liver cancer which was highly successful. However, her liver cancer returned this past Fall and she underwent chemo embolism which was 90% successful. There is still a very tiny trace of cancer, so they are going to do another chemo embolism and are even considering beam radiation. She goes in next Tuesday for a consultation with an Oncologist to discuss the radiation. The following day she goes in for another chemo embolism procedure.

Has anyone gone through anything similar? I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Prior to the return of her cancer she was called up twice for a liver and both fell through at the last minute. She remains on the transplant list with MELD at 29, but as we all know there are many there at the 29 mark. She did get called a few weeks ago as a secondary on the list and was told she may receive a call by 2:00am, but was not called.

Please...prayers and positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'm always in awe of her and just can't see myself being such a trooper after all this time.

Thank you all so much!

Hi Pramir.

I'm sorry to hear that your wife's cancer has returned but hopefully the treatment she is about to receive will do it's work in shrinking and eradicating the cancer and eventually the transplant will rid her of the cancer worries altogether.

I too had HCC. I had 2 sessions of TACE treatment that shrunk the tumours and 3 years of chemotherapy. I eventually went on to transplant through liver failure due to cirrhosis.

I am now over 16 months post transplant and cancer free and feeling and doing very well.

I hope that soon your wife will be in the same position as me.

My thoughts are very much with you and I hope that you will keep us all informed of her progress.

My very best wishes to you both.

Alf.

Thank you so much! I'm trying...certainly learned being a caregiver is one of lifes biggest challenge.

May I ask what part of the U.S. you are in? I am in VA, and unfortunately have watched several people suffer waiting for that call that a liver was available to no avail. A friend of mine lives near Dallas, and he got called 3 times in 6 months, eventually getting new liver :) My hep doc said living near a transplant hospital may be the reason he was called. Sadly I only know 2 ppl from my support groups who finally got a liver.

I'm in the PNW and surely hopeful that liver is coming soon! I'm sorry for your friends who didn't make it.

Have you considered relocating temporarily? University of California San Franciso Medical Center is number #1 in the US for liver transplants.

Thanks for the input. Yes a move from east coast to west seems daunting to say the least, but I would be willing to go to Mars if they were growing livers there 😁 (Who knows?) Hubby is pretty much on board with what is required.. I call him Charlie Brown, cause he's a "good man"!

Thanks for the kind words. That's what is so amazing about this particular board..everyone is so supportive and kind, not to mention helpful.

It is so hard, as many of us know, to watch your friends wait for a liver that never comes. But reading so many positive Post TP comments here gives me hope. Right now waiting for my next MRI.

Hi, I'm sorry I didn't mean to suggest a cross country move, l got confused l guess that Pramir and his wife lived in PNW?? I am in North Carolina, and luckily live close to Duke University. I am currently under the care of doctors at UNC, but if I needed a transplant, l would surely be looking to get on Duke's list as well. It is worth noting that many hospitals offer housing for families who need to temporarily relocate just for the life saving surgeries they need. Best wishes for both of your families during this stressful time, and prayers for best possible outcome. xx

Oh Pramir, I'm so sorry to hear your wife's cancer has returned, and that all calls for a transplant have not come to fruition.

Both you and your Wife are in my thoughts and prayers, that the new chemo works, and she gets' the call for a new liver very soon.🙏🙏🤞🤞

God Bless,

David
