I think there is some truth in that. My late husband was taken to the local pub when he was 15 years old by his parents. It seems it was something that was normal to them and their friends with their kids. They drank, so the kids did too, sadly they never knew the risks. Even more sad is that over 40 years later, many people still dont know the dangers of alcohol. My Mum was a barmaid for many years and never drank and neither do I..

I also agree Laura. The male side of my family, father, uncles, grandfather all drank heavily.

I can't line your post for some reason?!

I remember looking into this some years ago. I had heard about a possible elusive gene they were calling the Alcohol gene, which was supposedly inherited and passed on from a parent. There was a lot of scorn at about this theory at the time.

I think later on, the scientists of the day did identify a gene that was hereditary, that made a person more susceptible to want to try alcohol and experiment with drugs. I think there was a danger for someone with an alcohol problem to try and just fob it off as being a problem they inherited, rather about their personal choices, or other possible underlining mental health issues.
