Stem Ginger/The Itch

Dear All

I'm looking for some advice!

For the past 37 years I've not been able to drink tea or coffee due to severe migraines followed by pain relief injections from various GP's.

As I can no longer drink the above my hot drinks consist of chopped stem ginger, ginger cordial, fresh lemon, and the occasional oxo cube drink at night in the winter months.

The web states that ginger's good for the liver as it clears out toxins! Over the last week or so I've been drinking slightly more of the stem ginger, (one piece of chopped stem ginger daily in hot water ). I'm now wondering if this could be causing my skin to itch more especially last night and this morning, or if it's just down to the warmer weather again ?

Any replies welcome

Trish

Hi Trish, could it be sun and heat related, like heat bumps, I used to get as a child? I used to suffer with 2 or 3 migraines a week many years ago, and was told by my botany master to eat 1 feverfew leaf every day, and it really worked, I now have just 3 or 4 a year. I have recommended it to others too, and it has reduced the frequency for them also. You should be able to get it at a nursery in the herb section. Hope this helps,

David

Hi David

My migraines have totally stopped since giving up the coffee and tea! I've had the odd fuzzy head (may 5 in total in 37 years) I have had the odd coffee but mainly only sips but still not good.

We have no heat pumps of any kind so cannot comment on that point.

Re Feverfew leaf, not heard of that one, where can I buy from ?

Hi Trish, You should be able to get feverfew at a nursery in the herb section. It has worked for me for years. I have never heard of tea or coffee being associated with migraine. I only have 1 tea and 2 coffee's ( good for the liver) a day, but the pot with the feverfew sits outside on the terrace, and chew and swallow just 1 leaf a day, of more if I am having a migraine attack.

Ah! Will keep this information in mind. Unfortunately you would not believe how many meds make me quite ill too. The docs have tried all sorts of anti sickness drugs before various ops and I'm still violently sick for days afterwards and normally kept in hospital for an additional day ! My gut is unbearably sensitive to lots of things and send signals to my brain! Caffeine is well known for causing migraines which I'm surprised you didnt know.

Anyway cheers for your info which is much appreciated. 😊

Hi Trish, I was just told to steer clear of cheese and chocolate. I used to get huge (10 pence coin size) orange tablets from the doc, that I had to chew until dissolved. they tasted revolting, and didn't work 🤢🤢🤢

I'm not keen on tablets and those large green ones dont sound up my street! The GP's injections made me immediately throw up which was brilliant at relieving the pains but then bed followed for a day or so!😣i must admit I'm so glad I dont suffer anymore! My best friend got them after eating custard cream biscuits....

I have no issue's with either cheese or chocolate other than it makes you fat in large quantities and I presume not great for the liver either, however I do eat mini chilli chocolate bars from Adli 😁😁😁

Anyway this is not answering the Stem Ginger /Itchy question above 🤣

You might need to keep your intake of stem ginger down to 3-4 gms daily. Excessive consumption will probably result in digestive problems and over production of bile.

Cheers Mark

Will do!

Thanks Trish

Whoops! Just weighed my usual amount of ginger chopped up and added to hot water which I have about 3 times a week, its weighs 15 grams so I will be reducing the amount from now on! Thank you TT !

Can I ask do you have a TT car???

Ha! Ha! Naughty step for me today! My brain for some apparent reason logged green! I knew I should have scrolled up to checked😣😣

It was a good kick in the butt ! Cheers😁😁😁😁

Hi Trish,

We would suggest that you discuss your use of ginger with your own doctors to make sure that it is appropriate for you.

Best wishes
