Slightly raises ALT and AST help!

I am a 38 year old female. I have drank for 10 years and of the last 4-5 mostly everyday (average 4 glasses of wine). I have bloodwork frequently as a have hypothyroidism. My blood work about 1.5 years ago showed a very slight lowering of my platelets. Next rest they had raised and my doctor wasn’t concerned. My last bloodwork, a month ago, showed my ALT at 37 and my AST at 42. My doctor just asked I give blood again in 3 months. Truth be told I am an emotional mess. I have read tons on the internet and am scared. Since the results came I initially slowed and since 7 days have not drank a drop. I have had no withdrawal symptoms. I am considering going to a lab just to check my levels again this week just bc I feel my anxiety is causing me symptoms. Has anyone noticed mild occasional pain on both sides of the rib cage? Also I have noticed throughout the last 2 years ever so often I’ll have an itchy skin feeling. Usually though it’s when I read and get myself worked up. Anyone with a similar story?

Hi ,I had a similar story but I went back for another blood test and found out my levels had even increased and had high bilirubin,I was cross as I has expected my levels to go down ,I was sent for a liver scan which took 3 weeks ,so in the mean time I drank a liver cleanse of ginger ,lemon and garlic ,just put in ‘liver cleanse ‘ into YouTube and you’ll find loads of info and help.,I also went on a plant based diet .cut out additional sugars .yes this was an effort to begin with ,but I was taking charge of my health and breaking years of bad habits. The scan showed enlarged bile ducts, and so had to come back for a repeat scan ,in the meantime I continued my health regimen and added intermittent fasting ( stopped eating for 16 hours a day ) with the odd 24 hrs thrown in ,All of this gave me a sense of well-being,and went on to lost 43b .future scans all came back good ,blood work perfect ,I continue to have a healthy diet ,no longer totally plant based ,have the rare glass of bubbly/ Guinness but what the initial Blood test showed me 16 months ago I’m thankful for, it took me down a health awareness road that I’m not going to come off .All I have todo now is get down the gym or.... perhaps not ..... I’ll stick to my walks 😀good luck in your journey to recovery your health 🙏🏽

Sorry but no, this is inaccurate and dangerous advice.

Nneely needs to never drink again ( has said is happy to do so) and needs a healthy balanced diet without periods of starvation in order for the liver to heal.

Please Do not get info from the internet or you tube. These so called liver cleansers do not do what they claim and are nothing more than fake ripoffs.

Please see the livertrust website or nhs sites for real, accurate info. You may think what you are doing yourself is working but you could well be causing yourself other long term health problems. Please look after yourself properly.

I have ceased the milk thistle and right now plan to just continue with the B complex and folic acid. Plus as mentioned my exercise and eating better. I am actually only around 108 lbs which I’ve been all my life. Besides me drinking I generally eat fairly well. I love to cook and have an Italian background so I use slots of fresh veggies and garlic.

This has really annoyed me for quite sometime. There are a lot of bogus companies out there selling so call liver detox and liver cleanse stuff.

Human beings have had livers for over 200,000 years. These organs having been doing their job quite happily throughout that time. The liver detoxes the blood, it doesn't need anything else. It has the capacity to repair it's self. It doesn't need any made up toxins, or human interference, in fact these so called remedies can actually do more harm than good. And then there is the ethical side to this.

The product you speak of "Liver Cleanse" is addressed as being at:

Elite Health

20-22 Wenlock Road

London

N1 7GU

This is an apartment block in London. Multiple companies operate out of this same address, so this is actually a forwarding address service, a mail box if you like. I have checked with Companies House, and there is no company with the name "Elite Health" being registered at this address. However, there are some 42,968 companies registered at 20-22 Wenlock Road.

The upshot here is that you don't know anything about this company, who the CEO is, where the product comes from, what it contains, (what it says on the label may not be what it is). Back in 2016 there were High Court Orders written against companies using this address: gov.uk/government/news/high...

Please just be careful. You health regimen is potentially dangerous and should come with a health warning.

What caused your dilated ducts? I have similar issue...raised ALT/AST (peaked at 108 ALT 54 AST), but ALP is fine...ultrasound fine, mri fine...just dilated bile ducts. Any info is appreciated, I am concerned it may be cirrhosis that is dilating the ducts...
