Post Liver Transplant

My name is Iskandar, from Tajikistan post liver transplant patient.

I was under treatment from march 2018 until January 2019. My transplant surgery was done in April 2018..

Now I am on recovery period, I feel weak with Osteoporosis because of much steroids and kidney stones. Any Transplant Doctor Reco wish to write Recommendations, I would be glad to hear..??

Thank you..

Hi Iskandar.Welcome to the forum My transplant took place Aug 26th 2018. I too have bone issues now (probably due to 3 years of daily chemo tablets) I have been diagnosed with osteopenia. I have had 3 spinal fractures which have just mended (but I have to take care). I wore a back brace for roughly 3 months and was able to remove it a couple of weeks ago. I am now on some medication to help to keep my bone density stable or maybe even increase it. I have to make sure that I have plenty of bone building foods in my diet. I am at present slowly trying to build my muscular strength back but have to be very careful due to my recent fractures (no weight lifting etc!) Wishing you all the best. Alf

Hi, As far as liver is concerned I am absolutely fine. Also doing well now with my bone issues. Just have to remind myself that I'm not 20 any more! lol. When I look back to one year ago, terminal with no hope, I have to say that life now is wonderful. I have started getting out and about now and each day is a marvellous bonus to me. Yes, I still get tired and I get backache following my spinal breaks but in comparison to last march...….Well, there is no comparison. I hope that you will soon feel the same way. All the best. Alf

Hi Alfred,

I want to ask about your diet, were you on hight calcium and protein diet? What kind of food are you taking? I can't take calcium, i used much, I took Shelcal-M snd Calcirol sachet, for last 10 months, because of kidneys calcinate stones now I can't take calcium.. Maybe you recommend Menu or list of food, which can be useful for bones and young liver...

Second question, I am still on steroids, Wyselone 30mg daily. I have swellings on my face and Abdomin. Platelets is going down..Billi Total and Direct, SGOT,SGPT,GGT going up..

Tacrolimus level: 11.3..

Hi I can't comment on your blood tests because I'm not qualified in any way to do that. I can tell you that when I was on steroids my face became fatter and this is a side effect of the drugs and another side effect can be water retention which could maybe explain the swelling of your abdomen but it's best to ask your doctor or specialist about that. Good food for the bones and also healthy for a new liver...…...Oily fish (salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel) If it is tinned fish then eat the bones also. Dairy products. Cheese (in moderation if it is a high fat cheese) yogurts (low fat high protein like the Greek style yogurts) but not live yogurts. Skimmed or semi skimmed milk, breakfast cereal, granola, porridge. Spinach (very good) and green veg. The darker the green the better. Figs, nuts ,tofu, sesame seeds, olive oil, apples, bananas, sweet peppers, turmeric, mustard, ginger (curry spices) berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, elderberries). ……..If you include these things in your diet they will all help retain and even help build bone strength. It's recommended to eat oily fish at least 3 times a week. This should be enough to be going on with. I feel really good for eating a healthy diet and I'm actually wanting unhealthy foods less and less as time goes on. I feel that it is starting to increase my energy levels too. I hope this information will be of use to you. Wishing you all the best. Alf
