So I lost my dad a year ago too cirrhosis through alcohol. It's so hard being left here without him as we welcome his new grandchild into the world and another on the way. I've try to remain positive as he was a good dad and had a bag of shirts of his I couldn't bear to chuck out, he was always smart and a snappy dresser. My wonderful friend made this blanket for me and I feel so lucky to have something of this. For those battling this disease or family members supporting someone, keep asking the questions, keep pushing for help and do all you can.

It really is dad was so well then bang he didn't drink for a year but it was too late.. I don't think the hospital helped as he never went to specialist unit.. And the consultant he saw for 6 years wasn't a liver specialist but I can't change it now.. I wish you luck x
same problems really had no idea my dad was even poorly until he was admitted in December to hospital, never got any answers other than he had patches of cirrhosis and discharged with out treatment, only to see a liver specialist 6 weeks later who told me hes got decompensated liver and there is nothing they can do but treat ascites etc with medication. he still had the occasional drink so not eligible for a transplant unfortunately I do feel that when it is alcohol related the docs etc seem to care less. x
With respect to alcohol I think it doesn’t matter how your liver has been damaged but what is important (I think) is that you must have stopped, or commit to stopping, drinking the vimto. When I was in a ward post TP the chap opposite me (who was awaiting a transplant) was tested for alcohol! He had only been to the cafe for some food but someone had seen him and got suspicious. Having talked a lot to him I know he had given up drinking. Needless to say he was clear, but it demonstrated how seriously they take drinking vimto.
Sorry to go on a bit. Just that I ‘ve been through what your Dad is now going through but I was a exceptionally lucky and had a successful TP!
My dad had stopped but it took from Feb to end of August to see someone and he died 21st September.. As soon as he saw the specialist they put a feeding tube in not sure why that didn't go in as early as the November when he kept complaining he couldn't eat they eventually sent him to the hospital in FEB and realised he had acid and all his stomach was inflamed... 3 months they did nothing and he saw his so called consultant in that period he really had sub standard care x
I know yes.. So bacially Nov 2016 he couldn't eat, went to his consultant did nothing visited gp 4 times eventually Feb 2017 he got sent to hospital found out he had acid and swallen stomach due to acid common in people with liver disease I'm told.. Feb they said dad needed a transplant and would refer all this time he was loosing weight dietian was non existent.. Seen him after 12 weeks and then 30th August 2017 saw liver specialist who straight away said tube feed to build him up, he died 21 Sept 2017..i wonder if he had received better care with dietians the outcome he hadn't drank since Nov 2017 x
Dad used to live in Birmingham and the liver unit there is fantastic he moved to bridgnorth and was under a gastric person for 6 years.. At some health centre not even a hospital.. With little support no regular scans just blood tests it was very poor and I think I have to for my own sanity put a complaint in to help others x
So sorry for your loss Natalie. What a lovely idea! The blanket must bring back many memories for you, hopefully more happy than sad. Memories of each square that you can talk about with his grandchildren as they grow. Very best wishes. Alf

What cause of death if not cirrhosis? 
Non-cirrhotic portal hypertension 
Dad has stage 4 cirrhosis
