Hello everybody My wife has been on spironolactone for sometime, originally she was on a combination of Spironolactone 100mg & Furosemide 40mg. Unfortunately she had a reaction to furosemide IE (confusion), so they stopped her taking Furosemide. They increased her dose of Spironolactone to 200mg, which she has been on for sometime. Just before Christmas she had an appointment with her consultant who increased her dosage to 300mg, but unfortunately her blood test which was carried out two weeks ago was too high in Potassium 6.4. She got a call from her GP who informed her that she needed to reduce the dosage to 200mg. On Monday last she had to repeat the blood taste, & today she had another call from the GP which had a similar reading of 6.4. She informed the GP that she was off to Kings for her 4 day admission tests, so hopefully they will be able to find some combination of diuretics to bring down the high level of Potassium. As you can imagine she is really worried what with her Potassium level coupled with her four day in hospital tests. She rarely eats bananas apart from me (solybananas)

We are not medically trained on here but if your wife is going to Kings be assured she will be in very good hands. They will likely sort all her medication and will devise a plan that is just for her needs. She will be in the hands of experts and like many others on here, she will know exactly what she needs to do and what they hope to do. A lot of members have been treated by Kings, I have only ever read glowing reports. Easier said than done but try to focus on the positives of going there. I love bananas but they are a no no on my low carb diet! See the 4 days as a very big plus - she will be treated and tested to help her.Hazelx

They will give medication to level it off. My Hubbys was sky high. These doctors at the hospital are amazing, and will soon have her sorted. When my Hubbys was high, his speech was almost impossible to understand, I'm positive it was connected with the high potassium.

Hi solybananas,

As has been mentioned by others - medical advice is best done by her doctors who know her condition best.

This is my experience with my husband's medications. He was on spironolactone for a while and had to do blood tests every 3 months to check for potassium levels.

Diuretics can sometimes be difficult, I have gathered, to get the best ones in the best dosage - but this is based on my parents and my husband being prescribed them.

I would think that since she will be with specialists who might see more people in a similar situation they will look into it and do their best for her.

Best wishes to you both,

Mary
