Hey Lois , By gamma I'm guessing you mean your Gamma-glutamyltransferase? Unfortunately to be quite honest the question your asking is almost along the same lines of asking how much a car costs. Basically meaning that an elevated GGT level can mean alot of things and does not have one set answer. GGT is found in the liver mostly but is also found in the spleen intestines muscle tissue and lungs to name a few. To be able to interpret the reason for the elevation even a doctor would have to see the whole clinical picture. Since you are on a liver forum I'm guessing the doctor had a Liver function blood test done for you? If so the values of the other blood tests would be of interest as well. Also in my experience (and also the experience of some of our members) doctors dont seem to often care about GGT to much. It can be elevated in healthy people who have recently drank heavily on a weekend. It also has sometimes been elevated in athletes after training. The only time they seem to care about GGT is if they are using it to aid in figuring our if or not a person is drinking who they believe isnt being honest about it or if its extremly elevated for long periods of time. Keep in mind GGT can go into over a thousand in values. So a mild elevation usually wont make a doctor bat an eye to much. That being said keep on the doctor to investigate it if you feel something is up.

I hope that helps a bit.
