Deutschland Uber Alles? Entshuldigung, aber ich verstehe nicht?

Seeing as most of us are in the UK system which is the only one we can access, I don't see the point of your post. The UK system proves perfectly adequate for transplant patients here.

Yes but in Germany its better if you are looking for your best

Hi,

What experience do you have of the liver transplant process in other countries that allows you to makes such comparison with such certainty ?

Do your search and you will know

Search what ?

Your short one line answers are not really very helpful. Difficult to have a discussion when its not really clear what point you are trying to make.

where you suggesting that you can't have a living donor liver transplant in the UK ? If so, that's not true as it is a procedure done in the UK and currently is being actively promoted by the Nation Health Service.

Pointless post though, German system might be better or better in your eyes but if we are in the UK we can only get transplants here so regardless of where is better UK patients will only get their's here.

In the field of liver or any other transplantation there is cooperation between teams throughout the whole of Europe and the rest of the world.

Apart from slight cultural differences between our various health systems, a transplant will be pretty much the same wherever you live.

Here is a link to the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) which shows quite clearly that we will receive the same care / treatment within Europe.

I had mine done in Bognor Regis - went very well using a do-it-your self kit I found on the internet.

You can't possibly compare the two unless you have had 1 done here and 1 done in Germany. So as previously said your comment makes no sense & is not helpful in the slightest for those waiting or going through the process

My husband's team at the Royal Free have been amazing, & their aftercare the same

Wow! Makes for scary reading. There are good and bad in every walk of life and in every country too. We have all heard about hospitals which are failing, in fact a friend of mine who is a nurse works in a hospital with a bad reputation who told me that she would never have surgery there. Another 2 women I knew/know were both diagnosed with breast cancer on the same day

One went to a big city hospital and the other went to a world class cancer hospital (I won't name them). Sadly the friend who went to the specialist cancer hospital died several years ago. Fortunately the other is still in good health. This doesn't mean that one is worse than the other, I would imagine that each woman had a different/more treatable cancer than the other.

If you think the success rate of liver transplantation in Britain more than Germany's actions so do it in Britain.

in reply to Alialt

Actions? Better wheel out the Home Guard.

Hi Piz,

OK if you do not wish to answer but might I enquire as to your country of origin?

My wifes consultant says France is the best in the world for liver problems due to the amount of wine they drink.

This was in response to a light hearted enquiry for places to holiday.

in reply to Knackeredninja65

Croatia actually has one of the highest success rates, inevitably because they are mostly from relatives and do around 120 a year. Lovely spot for a nice break.☀️

In that case Scotland should be the best in the world, if not perhaps they have difficulty finding sober surgeons:-)

Only joking, Scotland’s medical/surgical services do have great experience in liver disease and treatments but they are strapped for cash which makes advancing one’s knowledge and practical development, very difficult

Living in Germany, I can say that there does not appear to be a shortage of diagnostic equipment. However, in my personal experience, doctors only seemed interested in their own specialty. Heaven help you if you have more than one diseased organ and, nursing care was atrocious, although I did not have a liver transplant.

For a country to be the best in the world at liver transplantation I would suggest it needs to have the finances to provide: excellent medical/surgical staff, diagnostic equipment, excellent avenues of communication and first class nursing, ancillary and para medical staff. All staff need to be able to work in a team, respectful of the other’s skills and be able to liaise with other professionals to transfer the patient back to a competent primary care team. I doubt that Germany fits this criteria? A steady supply of donor livers would be an advantage as without them the rest doesn’t matter.

I live in France and they saved my life. Others live in the U.K. and ditto. Pointless comment. We all know our own particular hospital is the best, for us!
