What country is Dad in? If he isn't a UK resident then he probably wouldn't be eligible for an NHS transplant in the UK - we've had members here who are British but have lived elsewhere in the world then tried to come back here for treatment but owing to not contributing to UK taxes or National Insurance they weren't eligible for NHS treatment & since there is meant to be no private route to cadeveric liver transplant in the UK transplant on the NHS is probably not an option.

There are hospitals like the London Bridge Hospital who do have private treatment options for partial liver transplant from live donors but not every patient is able to accept a partial transplant. It is very costly - details might be sought from :- londonlivercentre.co.uk/liv...

Where to go for treatment will depend on where in the world he lives, what age he is, what funds he has available and what options are available.

Some years back I remember British nhs livers were being transplanted to Greek and Cypriot patients because of a deal with those countries - google it 2010

Hi

Where are you?

Hi

Just for my own curiosity, how do you know that figure without knowing the country and medical history of a patient?

I'm sorry if it offends, it's just that Dianamd91 joins one day and you the next with this question reminds me very much of a similar thing happening in 2 other liver support groups I'm a member of. They both turned out to be a scam targeting people desperately wanting to reduce transplant waiting times.

I hope this isn't the case here. As I said I'm sorry if it offends but we become a close community on here and look out for each other.

Britishlivertrust.org.uk have lots of leaflets available to downloadfor people wanting to get information regarding liver disease and transplant in the UK

You would have to contact your doctor in your own country for information about treatment opti9ns available to you

Hi Dianamd91 .

I think it would be very difficult to get a transplant in the U.K. if your dad is a non resident. For one thing the donor pool is not huge, unlike the U.S. where they seem to have more available organs.

As mrsmerlin has pointed out, I'd be extremely cautious of anyone claiming to be able to offer your dad a transplant unless you made contact with a reputable medical facility that does accept foreign patients.

I'm very sorry for the predicament you and your father are in. I wish you both well.

Contact the British embassy who will provide detailed information on private facilities in UK as well as if your dad will get a visa for this purpose.
