I had abdominal pain, feeling of fullness after eating and tiredness.i was also diagnosed of hep b. I did abdominal MRI the result showed a lession on the liver which the report suspected could be malignancy and adviced that biopsy be done for comfirmation.I went to a gastro Dr on the 6th of this month who after examining me said there was no need for biopsy and that what i have is liver cancer called hypertocellular cacilloma. And its likely that it has gone beyond liver and ruled out transplant. Is there actually no need for biopsy? I live in Nigeria and iam 43 yearsThank you all

Diagnised of liver cancer
I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I can't advise you as I'm new to all this but hopefully someone will be able to help you. Take care. Deb
Hello,
I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (Primary liver cancer). Hepatitis B is the most common cause for this cancer occurring worldwide
and I expect you will have started some treatment for the virus.
Biopsies are not always necessary in diagnosing this type of cancer - scans are often sufficient as the cancer has particular characteristics which show up on the scan. (If there is any doubt about the diagnosis then a biopsy should be done.)
It is very important for you to know whether or not your cancer has spread outside the liver as this will determine which treatment you can be offered.
