Newbie Worried about MRCP

I'm new to this forum, but not to health unlocked, it's been invaluable. I've recently been in hospital with vomiting and headache, I couldn't stop for 3 days so was seriously dehydrated. I'm on methotrexate for Rheumatoid arthritis and my LFT have always been normal. However when tested in hospital they came back very high so I had a CT scan which showed dilation of pancreatic and liver Ducts. I've been experiencing quite a bit of pain in my upper right side below my ribs and horrendous stabbing pains in my back just below my right shoulder blade, these take my breath away. I'm now waiting to have an MRCP and my medication has been suspended until after this pending results. I'm 51 and quite worried about this, I suppose I just wanted to share with someone who has been through this. I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago. Thank you for your time x

Hi Lizzy,

MRCP (magnetic resonancecholangiopancreatography) MRCP is a test using specialised magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, above) to provide doctors with a picture of your biliary (bile carrying) and pancreatic ducts.

We do detail this procedure briefly in our 'Liver disease tests explained' publication on page 30, here is the link;

britishlivertrust.org.uk/wp...

Hopefully one of our members who have had this will be able to share their experience with you,

We hope you feel better soon.

Best wishes

Hi Lizzy, I recently have had an MRI and following that an MRCP. I do not have the results yet but they were looking for signs of PSC.

I had the contrast dye put in, my arm, it took a little longer than the MRI, but was completely painless and a welcome opportunity to have a lie-down. They can get better and quicker images if you get your breathing right, (you get instructions when to take a breath in and hold). I almost went to sleep, so there is nothing to worry about. I hope it provides some answers
