The big crash diet - BBC

Been watching this programme on BBC and there's a part where one of the participants is diagnosed with fatty liver due to being overweight. Apparently it affects up to a third of us. Many people only see drinking as the culprit for liver disease but I think poor diet and processed sugar in particular is just as bad if not worse than alcohol in causing liver damage, not to mention the many other conditions that are a direct result of obesity.

Yes ' diet is so very very important , i went on a mad crazy craving for choclate, and i mean 200g bar every single night , this had a major impact on my already cirrhotic liver.. glad to say with a pep talk from my hepatologist i have cut right down.

I agree . I have cut choclate out completly and replaced with fruit. I feel so much halthier

Whenever you feel you must have some you could try dark chocolate 90%+. Not as nice as milk one but much healthier 😊

Yes KLDN, i buy the 90%,dark chocolate or the dark chocolate with a touch of orange zest, no it's not as good as dairy milk..😁.but i find after 2 large squares i don't need any more..

I too have nash and was being put off having a hip replacement because it could lead to a complete 'liver and kidney failure'. I decided about six weeks ago to loose weight, which would help my mobility, breathing and my sleep apniea. Since then I have lost 20 lbs, and I was pleasantly suprised when my liver consultant suggested on Thursday that when I lost 5 stone his hospital would be more than happy to do my hip as there's was the only hospital in the region with liver specialists, so that if anything did go wrong they wouldn't have to 'bus' me between hospitals. He also suggested banding and a micro camera to go all the way through the system to find the source of bleeding causing me to have very poor iron in the blood. This at last feels like progress.

I'm glad you are progressing and that your consultant is listening to you. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
