Concerned wife

Hi my husband is waiting on the transplant list for his liver but when he seen his consultant last week he told my husband and me that my hubby had an enlarged spleen is this common or is it something to worry about I’ve also noticed for the past couple of days that his breathing is getting quite heavy and his pulse is really fast is anyone else going through this too thanks

Hi

Enlarged spleen is the norm in somebody with liver disease. Once transplanted it should revert down to normal size.

Hope he doesn't wait too long.

I had worries like you.

Pre- transplant, I had an enlarged spleen too. My resting heart rate was higher than it is now. My consultant was never concerned about either.

My son had an enlarged spleen pre transplant and even a few weeks after at his follow up ultrasound. He is 13 weeks post transplant now and hasn’t had any more scans so I assume nobody is concerned.

My husband did a couple of weeks ago, he had a bulge at the side sticking out which was caused by his stories pushing everything around

It's up it's down

He had his first tummy drain sinceproblems started 3 weeks ago

Consent forms were signed on Tuesday for liver transplant

my wife got an enlarged spleen when she was waiting for her transplant i think it is something that can just happen i would not worry about it

But i would be contacting your team about the breathing and pulse my wife never had those problems and the hospital expect you to phone with questions

Hi from experiance ring them now the sooner he gets in hospital if there is a problem the quicker he will get out, been there done it

Hi Dougalgromit. I have been on the waiting list for 18 months now with my spleen getting bigger and bigger, it's about 30cm at the moment. Hopefully it should reduce after transplant. What hospital are you under? x

Hi Chelle my husband has to go into hospital next Wednesday he has to go in for a couple of days so we are going to speak to the doctor then
