hi fathfull, I suppose you must feel scared, like I was, but the doc didn't give you a death sentence, I am 3 years with cirrhosis and you must stay focust. At the moment there a lot of money being given to trials for a cure, and ime sure they will find one soon. the Doc should have given you some meds, I am on rifaximin 500mg one, twice a day , this is a low level antibiotic. I also take furosemide 40mg once a day and spironolactone 40mg one a day, this is to stop you gathering water so it makes you pee more. Also my doc gave me lactulose this is to keep your bowels clear. If you get constipated your bowel will slow down and it produces ammonia, this gets into your blood stream, and go to your brain, and it makes you very sleepy, so watch that. Eat healthy foods, and plenty fruit and veg, drink about 3 pints of water a day to keep you hydrated. if you find youself getting depressed, and you could do, ask your doc to give you something for it. Sorry this so long, but I hope it helps you, think positive thoughts, and know you will get better. steve Oh and try to get some exercise, that wil help as well

Thanks my next post novel

Faithfull I think it only fare to point out that a GP isn't a qualified hepatologist. He can merely pass on the results of tests and comments passed on by others. If I was you, I would have asked the doctor some more questions. For a GP to just say we'll leave things isn't good enough. I would want to know how badly damaged my liver was, Like is it at end stage etc?

I take it your presently taking other medication, for some of your other conditions. I would be researching to make sure that these other medication don't cause problems for the liver. You'll know by now that everything we eat, drink and inject ends up going to the liver at some point. Some drugs can cause additional problems. I like to use this example to explain the problem....

One of the problems associated with my past liver problems was that my liver became insulin resistant, so I went on the contract diabetes. Now when I went on to see a diabetic nurse, she proscribed a course of Gliclazide. I went on to take this medication for three months. It was only on the off chance that I happen to read one day the medication instructions and was reading about possible side effects. There in bold letters it said, "Warning, not to be taken if you already suffer from liver or kidney problems". What I'm trying to say is that someone will try and treat the condition you present without looking at the BIGGER picture and seeing what other damage this treatment could cause.

First of all Faithfull stop worrying, this anxiety and worrying it's helping you at all. Go back and ask you GP for clarification as to the severity of your liver condition, and ask if any of the other medication your taking can cause further harm to your liver.

Do you use a website called "Patient Access" to order your repeat prescriptions? On here you can have a look under "Medical Record" there is an option to view documents. These are emails and letters from other doctors to your doctor. It might help if you can get to read these for yourself.

Hope your feeling better

You need more information either from your GP or a Specialist in liver problems. Believe me I know how difficult this can be. Ask to have a copy of the letter sent to GP by specialist. Good luck xx
