Swelling in legs feet and abdomen due to liver disease

Hi, after reading a few of these posts and seeing the help, support and advice people have received i thought i would give it a go in the hope it will be more helpful than googling and feeling like i cant do anything.

Basically my mom has been told she might need a liver transplant, we have an appointment booked for a few weeks so will hopefully get more clarity then. (she first went into hospital in February after suffering numerous seizures over a few hours, since then all of this has just escalated)

however over the last week or so her feet were starting to swell and would go down after a few hours with them up but the last few days her legs feet and stomach have got so bad, like they were when she was in hospital.

i dont want unnecessarily take her to a&e but im worried it might cause more problems. has anyone else experienced or seen this in people with liver cirrhosis.

i am just looking for a bit of advice.

thanks in advance

Ascites and oedema are a medical emergency and mum needs to be seen by doctors - she may need a drain to get rid of fluid or further water tablets.

A trip to A&E or at least her GP is a must.

Hi Becky33; your Mums diagnosis sounds similar to mine ,Don't waste any time on A&E as they are swamped anyway, definitely demand your GP seeks full LFT any scans which might be of use to Mums case, personally I lost track of how many tests I had, but my situation was a little different, Fast forward I eventually was accepted onto the TP list. so fingers crossed your Mum might not need a transplant ; If she does, and this from personal experience for everyone needing a TP sign the consent form to trial the VITTAL research programme; I did and I was transplanted after just 3-4 weeks, I was over the moon, am now recovering, 7 weeks post-transplant and feeling very well, Definitely get those tests done, Hopefully they will point somewhere else, so good luck and best wishes to your Mum.XXXX
