liver transplant

Just been to the final round of tests in my ongoing journey hopefully ending in acceptance onto the liver transplant list.

cirrhosis mainly due to drinking, nothing hard though, then advised I had HepC. eliminated that after a 3 month drug trials with a new type of drug.

Both consultants want his to happen sooner rather than later. So hopefully that will promote my case. However I still have to go for a two day consultation, including Q&A, meeting the team of surgeons and anaesthetists involving the op itself and recuperation, plus counselling for any pschological problems which may be caused by the anti- rejection drugs etc.

Really excited if I do get accepted accompanied by some low-level anxiety at the moment.

It's great to meet the whole team involved in the transplant process and don't be nervous or anxious they don't tell you anything what you probably don't know already. Where is your assessment?

Thanks so much for your response, I know I am going to enjoy our "relationship", my initial assessment was at Birmingham, QEH everyone's been fantastic. Now just waiting for my invitation back to QEH to meet the team, that's going to be a long 2 days, I'me retired so I really dont care how long it takes. Counting every day.

2 of my close friends had their transplants at QE, they are completely on the ball they were over the moon with care pre and post transplant so you are under one of the best. It is a tiring experience so make sure you have a good rest in-between tests but good luck with it all and please let me know how you get on ☺

The more I hear about the procedure on this "blog" the less apprehensive I feel, keep them coming.

Many of us here have had our transplant in QE. I had my transplant 2 years ago but I didn't go through the assessment as I fell ill suddenly with acute liver failure. It is such a lovely hospital and it's very modern. I was amazed by Costa and whsmith being there. The team are excellent. My surgeon was Professor Miuesin. The nurses are so brilliant too. You'll be with a great team without a doubt! I'm still a regular visitor there but I must admit I love going there and seeing nurses and doctors who saw me at my worst.

Good luck!

Hello. I had my transplant 2 years ago at the QE! Well two in fact within 5 days. Mine was in Feb. One of my surgeons was Prof Muisan too! Were we there at the same time?

I had my transplant in may 2015. This time 2 years ago I was finally discharged after being in there for nearly 2 months.

Yes it will def be worth it in the end.

Are you feeling pretty ill at all times at the moment?

No I actually feel pretty good, get quite tired sometimes which isn't helped by intermittent insomnia, my wife says my sense of humour isn't quite what it was and I can be a bit snappy, but hey we've been married for close to 40 years , only joking because I am fairly self critical of a lot of my failings , and I am aware of the mildly snappy stuff, but it is quite difficult to be laughs-a-lot when you don't feel 100%. But final testing coming up soon and am hopeful of my acceptance on to the TP list, but I know their are no guarantees. WILL keep you posted.

My liver is ticking along fine. However overall I'm just going through some pain and finally I think I have the answer to that. I'll be writing a thread today to update people.
