The hospital consultants told my hubby he would recover - not alcohol related but same issue as you report. His bilirubin levels fluctuated up and down, then 2 weeks after a course of antibiotics he died (4 weeks and 2 days from showing jaundice). The consultant told me my hubby gave up because he refused to be tube fed when he could not eat.

People recover from this and can go on and live for years. Best advice is to listen to the dietician and instead of drinking tea drink alkali water or lemon and hot water to give your liver a chance. And of course, no alcohol ever again.

Best of luck to the patient xxx

Hm do you have a MELD score? Are kidneys still functioning? Once my dads kidneys stopped working they tried dialysis but his body was too weak and too ill to withstand it. We were told this (most likely) would happen but my dad wanted to exhaust all options.
