False Alarm

Having received the call early Saturday Morning, I was sent home on Saturday evening as the liver was unusable. Disappointment prevails but also I learnt so much about the whole process.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes, they were really appreciated. Onwards and upwards.

Sorry it wasn't the result you were expecting. My partner was lucky in July when he had the transplant but as you say the process is quite mind blowing. Also a very long day. You will get the call again so don't give up . xx

So sorry to hear that Ray, but pleased you now know the procedures ready for next time. Fingers crossed for you.

Take care

It happens. I had one false alarm, it's incredibly disappointing but like you say onwards and upwards.

All the best.

Now there fella it's a hard one to deal with but if it wasn't good enough then the next one maybe , a lot of it depends on which way the liver is retrieved as well as you will know there's 2 different ways , when I was getting calls then being told that it wasn't going forward rather than think it's not going to happen or when is it going to happen I just keeped saying ,it's happening for a reason n just stayed positive I had 5 calls n luckily the 5th was when I was transplanted.it will happen sooner rather than later as now you,ve been cslled the wheels are turning for you good luck with the future n fingers crossed next time eh ))))

Yes, exactly that "the wheels are turning". I had a false alarm, went home and on the second night at home got my second call and TX.

One thing I wasn't quite prepared for was the sudden shock and realisation when they actually tell you it's going to happen. A liver transplant although life saving is not a procedure you really look forward to. The journey is one hurdle after another, the sudden realisation that there were no hurdles terrified me.

Yeah mate the 1st call is the mind blower to be honest I had my 1st n 2 nd call in the space of 3 days then 2 more about 3weeks after it's the hardest thing I've ever been through 4 calls and then when I'm in hospital to be told sorry not this time as the liver wasn't good enough or not retrieved in time ax of the way of death .but I just leaped saying there's a reason why this is my time n on the 5th it was n when you get told that it's going forward that's when I felt completely numb , this is it ,but as you know the best feeling is when you open your eyes In ccu for the first time n know you got through major surgery.we are so blessed rodeojoe , ive started to write a letter to my donors family it's been 14 maths since my life was given this chance but I find it hard to put into words what I want to say but I will sort it , all the best to you in your recovery my friend

I had a false alarm and 2 weeks or so later my transplant. If nothing else, it tells you that you are near the top of the list for your blood group.

Dear Ray,

My husband had 4 before the 5th was lucky the first time round and on the first call for 2nd...

We became so used to the drill that we couldn't quite believe it was real when it finally was a match...

You would rather they were robust and gave you a good quality organ than have one which will end up causing adverse problems...

I pray that your call comes soon and that you are blessed with a good quality donor liver.

Yours truly,

Pear

Fingers crossed for your next call. I was relieved when I was told first time they had a liver but hours later someone else had got it. I calmed down instantly but when I was told the next time I was so much calmer and felt a little more prepared for the process so look at the trial run as a good thing.. your going to get the call again very soon your at the top my second one was 2 and a half weeks after first x

Sooooo sorry Ray! But better safe than sorry..my liver looked great! Except they found a clot on my donor..not in the liver, but somewhere..and now, 14 months later I have to go back in for a reassessment and go back on the list as my liver is going to mechanically fail. I had ascites again, then they put in a shunt and now I have HE, hepatic enchalopothy, which is wretched..so yeah..best to be safe.

My girlfriend developed diabetes after her transplant, her bile ducts had died. She still has problems.

Not too be a downer..I have another friends, two of them that have been doing so great!

But it's better if they are cautious. Trust me.

I am praying my next one does the trick!

I've heard of poeople getting the call several times prior to ltx, and they are glad they waited for the right liver!

Cheering you on!
