Hi,I'm new.Just got ggt results 335 very high.all other parts of test normal.just had shingles and had a course of Acylavoir and on a lot of paracetamol for pain.On a lot of medication too,warfarin beta blocker fleck aide thyroid med and more.Could this be reason for high result.

Hi ! I am no expert but this might help : Raised GGT concentrations indicate that something is going on with your liver but not specifically what. In general, the higher the result the greater the damage to your liver. Elevated concentrations may be due to liver disease, but they may also be due to congestive heart failure, drinking alcohol, and use of many prescription and non-prescription drugs including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), lipid-lowering drugs, antibiotics, histamine blockers (used to treat excess stomach acid production), antifungal agents, anticonvulsants (seizure control medications), antidepressants, and hormones such as testosterone. Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) and clofibrate can decrease GGT concentrations. Smoking may also increase GGT concentrations.

Levels of GGT increase with age in women, but not in men, and are always somewhat higher in men than in women.

Several drugs increase (induce) the concentration of GGT in the blood. The increases do not indicate damage to the liver. Please inform your doctor of any prescription or non prescription drugs that you are taking.

I hope your shingles has also got better, that is indeed a lot of pain. Good luck with your next results. It looks as though they should be better when the medication is out of your system and you don't have to take anymore. xxx
