What is blood test result HBA?

Well I've had numerous blood tests over recent months but after visiting the liver specialist at Kings I got the results with all the usual abbreviations.  There was one that I don't recognise 'HBA' with a result of 5.8.  Can anyone tell me what that relates to and the normal range?  Thanks.

Hi, there is a blood test called Hba1c,  so I'm not sure if it's that your referring to. If it is , it is a test to check your glucose levels over the last 6 to 8 wks. I'm not sure of the reference ranges. x

Hi mormer.  I also got results for the Hba1c which is why I am confused and unclear on this one. I tried Google but no joy. I guess I'll just have to ask the doc. Thand anyway.

Hba1c definitely relates to blood glucose levels - diabetes uk page details that and reference ranges etc.  It would certainly be a blood test that they would take in relation to the liver.  diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1...  Whether this is the same as the HBA result I couldn't be 100% certain.

Thanks AyrshireK.  I've searched everywhere for this one.  When I got the results letter it was directly beside the HBA1 so maybe related but it's being elusive in trying to track it down. I've looked through all my various tests so far to see if it's near the range of something else I've had tested that the abbreviation would fit but no joy.  A mystery I suspect will be solved when I see the doc in July.  In the interim it's piqued my interest in the hope it might be a good result for something so I want to know!!  If I find out I'll post to this conversation.  If you're profile name reflects your location I hope it's not too blustery up there (I'm in Surrey but from Lanarkshire)!

It's a bit breezy and chilly - I am not quite on the coast but close enough.

If I read that page correctly at least if it is Hba1c and you are scoring 5.8 its within range.

Well, on the basis of info from mormer and AyrshireK I had a look on a website for diabetes and I think the HBA is a blood glucose test (like the HBA1c) - it should be 4.00 - 5.9 before meals and under 7.8 mmol/L more than 90 mins after eating.  At 5.8 I think I'm ok - it was more than 90 mins after breakfast - not sure though when that becomes 'before eating' i.e. lunch?  Anyway, I'll still ask the doc but I think the mystery is solved - thanks to your direction to the right place folks.
