What Council Area are you in Simon? They certainly exist in our council as they gave us great service and support with PIP appeal last year. They may have a different title in your council area but there should be someone at the council who can sit down with you and give advice on what benefits you might be entitled to.

Failing that there is also the Citizen's Advice Bureau although they are now becoming few and far between due to funding cuts. Some housing associations also have benefits support services.

I am sure someone out there could help, there are also hospital based social workers who could perhaps point you in the right direction.

Hi Simon, just had a good dig round Spelthorne Borough Council website and like you say no mention of Welfare Rights though there is a publication about benefits on one of their pages that mentions the Welfare Rights Unit at Surrey County Council so I wonder if they have a WRO you could contact. Still having a hunt through Surrey's page to see what I can spot.

All the best, Katie

Simon it looks like Surrey may have done away with the actual Welfare Rights Service within the council but they have set up the Surrey Information Point which seems to do the same job. They have an online support service for benefits but following some of the links takes you to actual face to face support.

Hope this is of help.

Hope you get some support
