Hi....this group is so amazing....god bless everyone...my husband is discharged today....how should i keep him away from alcohol....because thats dangerous now for him....also any suggestion for a high protein diet.....
Thank God: Hi....this group is so... - British Liver Trust
Thank God
With me it was the realisation that just one drink will mean no medical help and potential death.
Also no alcohol in food or even alcohol free beer, come to terms that you are tee total is not easy as that generally means no visit to the pub and the loss of friends, so replacement interests where drinking takes no feature is a good plan
Chicken soup helped me build back up
Non of it is easy
All the best

Hi, I was given a diet sheet from British Liver Trust, and I had high protein drinks on prescription via a referral to a dietician. The hospital referred me to the dietician who wrote to my Gp and I get my protien drinks on prescription from Gp surgery I found it difficult to eat after discharge from hospital and ate little and often but have to watch the salt carefully. Im a fussy eater but I now am a healthy weight (female 8 and a half stone) and the muscle wastage I had when I was drinking has gone. Still got a tummy though but that cant be helped due to cirhossis. Im sure you will find some foods that he will decide he likes, but it will be hard work on your part trying him with different foods. I personally think that any meals you can get into him, his body will be grateful for after having a alcohol diet.
Best wishes
julie
Although my partners liver problem was nothing to do with alcohol he drinks becks blue the non alcoholic beer apparently it's a good substitute but try as someone else said to do activities where drinking isn't a priority. X

Hi there
Try to go to the A.A. this will teach and build strong preventions, against a relapse to alcohol.
I was sober for 5 years and I returned to drink, and its the one thing I wish I could have change, was that I to the A.A then.
Because I returned to drink for a 2 year period and it did a lot of health damage.
As for protien, I eat unsalted nuts, porrage, tofu, eggs, milk, fish, chickpeas - all of which are low in fat.
low fat also helps with going easier on the liver and heart etc.
Good luck.
