Hello Hassina, i've put a link here which explains the GGT Blood Test and why it would have been taken.

medicalhealthtests.com/bloo...

You have obviously presented to the GP with some signs of liver damage hence the reason for the test and which will probably also explain your night-time sleeplessness, constant tiredness and abdominal pain. If you are not already seeing a liver specialist then I would be pushing to get a referal to see one - DO NOT be fobbed off as high levels of enzymes which which the liver should be dealing with are obviously in your blood stream.

Drinking coffee is good for the liver so we have been told but the Red Bull and its super high caffeine levels are probably NOT advisable. Nor should you be taking sleeping tablets or even over the counter KALMs. Any medication you are taking should be ok'd by a doctor as these could be making your condition worse.

My husband has cirrhosis and has never drank alcohol either and unfortunately there are all sorts of other illnesses and conditions which can lead to liver damage. My husband follows a high carbohydrate and high protein diet as advised by the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit dietician to fuel his daily activities as having a damaged liver prevents the liver from storing energy from food and can lead to muscle wastage and tiredness. I have a leaflet which others have found useful - if you would like to send me private message using the envelope symbol at the top of the page and send me your email address I will send you a copy and it might help you with energy foods.

In the mean time, look after yourself, push to see a liver specialist as something is obviously showing up as being wrong in your blood tests and other symptoms.

All the best, Katie :)

Hi Hassina

Gall bladder surgery can damage the bile duct. Either at the time of surgery or scar tissue over a period of time. This would raise your GGT levels

Xx bless you - ask to be tested for Hepatitis B/C !!!! You give the same symptoms that my husband had for many years and not diagnosed - did the Dr tell you what 'high' it was ???

Hi I have had high ggt levels for years apparently.a new gp (once I had convinced her id been t total since age 23 I was 53 at that time)sent me for ultra sound.they found nodules on my liver/pancreas.i thought I had pancreatic cancer.a ct scan confirmed no tumor and that high ggt etc was due to pbc.i feel reasonably good most days.take a low amount of urso ice acid and bloods going back to normal.def chase this up if you feel tired etc but hopefully it's something that's reversible as many liver complaints are.dont wait until it's not.good luck and best wishes
