Oh I do like to be beside the seaside ๐ŸŒŠ

We had been travelling through France and Spain for almost 2 weeks, visiting various cities along the way (Mr S is complaining that he is cathedraled out ๐Ÿ˜‚) so it was good to arrive just outside Cascais on the Portuguese coast near Lisbon on Saturday for a week of r&r! Although we have been averaging about 15000 steps a day, I hadnโ€™t been for a run for 16 days. Recced a route yesterday and set off before it got too hot. Out of the campsite and down the hill to the seafront, out and back along a section of shoreline on a concrete footpath/cycle way, pancake flat, then along a wooden boardwalk through the dunes back up to the campsite. It felt hard going, but the scenery is beautiful and I love running alongside the sea. 5.25k run and 0.35k walked up the steepest bit!

Ahh that sounds perfect Sandie! So glad you had an enjoyable (not too hot) sunny run. Enjoy the rest of your hols. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Nice cooling breeze, which sadly is keeping us from spending time on the beach, but it was really nice

Shame itโ€™s not possible to turn cooling breezes on and off at will! ๐Ÿ˜…

It is isnโ€™t it? Weโ€™ve had a lazy day today (after my run) sitting in 21c in the sun out of the wind, which has been lovely.

Fantastic! Enjoy those blue skies, we don't seem to have many of them by the English seaside today ๐Ÿ˜€

The forecast was for quite cloudy conditions this week but Iโ€™m pleased to say it was wrong. Gorgeous if a slightly chilly breeze!

Well done Sandie. How lovely to run in the warm again. Was that boardwalk bouncing as you ran along?

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

It was great. Quite a bit of the boardwalk is fenced off (I guess because of dodgy boards) and, yes, it did wobble a bit ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thereโ€™s a bouncing board walk in Los Cristianos. So much fun to spring along! ๐Ÿ˜€

got to love a seaside run! Hope it was a gentle cooling breeze coming in off the sea and not a horrid headwind. Enjoy your R&R and save Mr S from too many more Cathedrals!!!

A gentle but definitely cooling breeze, which was fab for running, but just too chilly for lounging on the beach

We went to Portugal last May and it was perfect. First time we had been and we loved it.

Weโ€™ve been a couple of times to the Algarve, but, apart from calling into Lisbon when interrailing as a student hundreds of years ago, weโ€™d never been to the north, so looking forward to something new

All that mild weather might make you soft Sandie! Amazing to think that the snow was hanging around a couple of weeks ago. Hope you both get on the beach soon; and maybe chance a swim.๐Ÿฅถ

I just find it quite mind boggling that the Alps are still in the height of ski season and we are sitting outside the van in 21 degree sunshine (notwithstanding the wind off the Atlantic) I am not brave enough to go in the sea though ๐Ÿฅถ

North Country I think. Used it in Cumbria anyway ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

My Dad used it. He was born in County Durham into a mining family, but he had an aunt who lived in Whitehaven, so the Cumbrian connection is there too.

Fantastic! Cascais is a very nice area. The weather there is just perfect right now. Enjoy the rest of your trip. I wish I was back there. I had such a lovely time in Seville.

Just a rather chilly breeze spoiling it, otherwise perfect. Been to Sintra today - extraordinary!

Hoping for another couple of seaside runs before we turn back inland. You are so lucky living near the sea ๐Ÿคž

How wonderful, you cannot beat sea air! With you on cathedrals, they are beautiful and historic buildings full of ancient relics and stories of our collective past. The churches in Spain were not damaged by the Reformation like in the UK. I have yet to visit Portugal-may be one day!

I just love the Spanish cathedrals, the y are so decorative and have so many carvings and paintings, you donโ€™t know where to look. Havenโ€™t started on the Portuguese ones yet ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ The Portuguese coast is lovely though!

That looks like such a beautiful place to run and warm too. Hope you'll be suitably refreshed and ready to enjoy more cathedrals after your seaside break. โ˜€๏ธ

How lovely! Weโ€™ve been to Cascais, but I hadnโ€™t started running when we were there. I remember the long promenade - just perfect for running! Sounds as though youโ€™re having a lovely time ๐Ÿ˜Š.

It is gorgeous and the cool breeze is ideal for running (if not for lounging on the beach!)
