How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.

Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Well what can I say? I’m neither running nor volunteering at PR today, and I’m not on the IC or unwell. Neither do I have a race tomorrow, so I’m not saving myself.

We have a friend’s lovely dog (black Lab) staying, and I don’t want to abandon him and Flossie this morning, so I’ll walk them both then come back to read all your fab posts.

No hardship, as I’m racing in the London Vitality 10,000 on Monday. 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

Enjoy PR you awesome lot. 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

Hi damienair & (not) park runners & park runners,

3 out of our 5 boys did Park run today with their Dad. We moved house this week so I opted for a longer slower run & met them at the finish line.

No. 2 son got 21:37 which is a PB for him🔥Hubby did his slowest park run with no.4 and no.5 joining him for their first park run. No.5 couldn’t find any of his shorts this morning in our move chaos so was wearing a pair of his brothers. He ran the whole 5k pulling his shorts up! Lesson no1 - make sure your pants fit if you want to run fast 🤣

Happy park running everyone ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Park run fun 😍

Moving house is horrible but we’ve just bought our first home together after nearly 16 years of marriage & 5 boys later.

No.2 son has the potential to be a really good runner. Hubby has promised him a pair of Nike Streakflys if he does sub 20 so the challenge is on 😍

Good morning Damien, Cheekychipmunks, Oldfloss and me seem to be a trio of parkruners who are not doing parkrun today, I wish CC and the rest of the Healthunlocked team who will be in London on Monday running the London Vitality 10,000 all the very best. Get that bloody bell rung!

I've only gone and done it. Took my racing shoes down to monsal trail and took 97 seconds off the previous time in my trail shoes 3 weeks ago.

Watch said 19:33 but official result came out 19:29 so I'm definitely having that for a first proper 5k race sub 20!

Very busy as well, 225 participants and I managed 9th position which is only my 3rd top 10 as well. First place was 16:08! I'll never get close to that but then again he was wearing nike vaporfly! I'll never be able to justify spending 250 quids on a pair of shoes.

Still going to super flat york next week. See if I can get 2 sub 20s in a row!

I finished work yesterday and had a little BBQ at home. I didn’t intend to, but I ended up having a few too many beers last night. I was celebrating financial year end and the start of a week off work.So this morning I slept in a little and decided not to do any parkrun tourism, instead I would run at my local parkrun. It was wet, drizzle but mild. I was dehydrated to say the least and decided to just go out and run at a nice relaxing pace. Not too many turned up today, the rain probably turned them off. I enjoyed it and chatted to fellow runners as we went around. I finished in a time of 33:33. All the 3’s. 😀

2---1-11---111-1--1--11-------13-11-1-----1-111---2--1-----2

(The really crude code I used to generate this from the saved website page is:

cat "results | parkrun UK.html"|perl -ne 'BEGIN{$q = "-"x 60;} END{print "$q\n";} ++substr($q,int($1),1) if m|href.*<td>\d\d:(\d\d)</td>|;'

Good afternoon Damien & all.

Bit late today as Katnap and I were having a very chilled post parkrun coffee with Shake-and-run . It was very handy as I was co-RD today so I was able to process the results and get them out quickly whilst we chatted in the sun 😍. Now very hungry and waiting for the rolls to cool down for our lunch.

Still a bit sore from the HM and I want to save myself for the Vitality 10k on Monday, so I offered to help with the RDing today. No more races until mid June after this one so I can do some chilled parkrun running for a few weeks. It was a shame today as it was perfect running conditions with a bright blue sky and just a slight chill in the air. We had someone break our age grading record at over 99% 😱.

We had 300 today at Stratford, not much different to last week and still staying stubbornly at post Covid levels. I thought with the spring and tourist season we may have got more but not yet. We are getting a lot of first timers though so hopefully numbers will grow.

Right, I’m off to make lunch now, so have a great runny week everybody and for those in the UK, have a lovely bank holiday 😎😃👏👏👏

Good afternoon Damien.

My usual haunt today for parkrun number 28.

I arrived with five minutes to spare, having had a "toilet emergency" just as I was about to be stepping out the front door.

I totally misread the weather situation. When I was kitting up it was still about 6°C, having been just under 4°C at 6am. The forecast was for it not to get much warmer. It was wrong.

I turned up in my winter kit, was comfortable at the start but it was getting a little warm by the end. It was bright, sunny and dry.

The Run Director's speech was difficult to hear today, as a runner's dog got rather too excited and started yowling and muttering, which drowned it out somewhat.

We were off a couple of minutes after the hour. I ran next to another regular for the first few hundred metres. Her usual finishing time is around 35 minutes. She said she was going to take it easy today as she was also doing a 10km run round Boggart Hole Clough (Blackley, North Manchester) at 10.30am today. I said I'd plans to rest tomorrow and run 26km on Monday. She said she'd be running tomorrow too (I forget where) and was working on Monday. At that point, my legs started to feel warmed up and I started to pick up the pace, leaving her behind.

As usual, I called out "Good morning" to the other park users, the marshals and runners I passed by. As I completed the second lap (of four), I called out to the finish line marshals, "TWO! HA HA HA!" in the manner of Sesame Street's Count, which got a laugh.

I settled into a steady pace. I got lapped by the gazelles about half way round the third lap. I kept consistently about 25m behind a lady with a long grey ponytail, with a distinctive orange top and blue shorts. I've noticed her here before.

On the final lap I made the mistake of powering up the S-shaped climb to the rose* garden to overtake someone, spiking my heart rate more than I'd like. I tried to ease off the pace through the lap of the rose garden's perimeter but, as I've found in the past, once it goes up it doesn't want to come down again. I did speed up a little for the finish, but in no way could it have been called a sprint.

Ponytail lady disappeared off into the distance after having her barcodes scanned, so I couldn't even joke to her that I'd been stalking her for two laps, or that I overtook her on the finish straight last week, too.

Afterwards I chatted with some others about the course, how deceiving it was compared to how it looks paper, how I'd walked down the river bank part of it on Thursday morning but in the opposite direction, and how it had struck me then how much of a slope there was to climb there.

Later I chatted with a guy who seemed to be involved in a local running club. I mentioned that I hadn't seen my nemesis (a shorter guy in his late 60s who consistently finishes in 25 minutes whom I often chat with). It turns out he's been recovering from an operation. His wife also enquired about my unusual shoes.

The tail walker comes in a little after 49 minutes (this is early for this course) and we disperse.

My official time today was 28:18, position 27 of 66. First finisher came in at exactly 20 minutes.

Hello from sunny Southsea everyone. As you can guess I wasn’t running this morning because of a certain race on Monday, but I got up early to volunteer and shake my tambourine at the turning cone. A police van turned up just after 9.00 - not to note parkrun’s transgressions but to cheer on a colleague. We also had one of our dustmen running in boots and fluorescent trousers, couldn’t believe he was so light on his feet! No 1 runner went round the cone the wrong way, which confused (annoyed) runner no 2, but all 373 participants had a lovely morning. Perfect parkrun conditions meant lots of PBs.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

I went round the cone the wrong way once - it’s actually weird feeling! But as I’m usually on my own at that point it doesn’t really matter ( although I think I was with Coddfish that day!). I can’t imagine running in a dustman’s uniform - huge well done to him! And to you for waving your tambourine at the cone!

Parkrun #14 for me and I'm back in East Anglia for the Sandringham parkrun. It was a bit of an odd one as I ended up with no one around me on the run. The very fast runners had disappeared off into the distance and I didn't hear anyone behind me. It made me realise how much having people around you can help with pace. Having said that I finished with a respectable 22:00. The Grand East Anglia Run tomorrow. Fingers crossed that goes OK.

It’s become a mini tradition for me to run a ParkRun the day before a race. This time the race is on Monday so this is the closest I can get!

I ran my home ParkRun which is Pomphrey Hill. My aim is to run it at an easy pace so that I’m ready for the race but, as often happens, I overcooked it a bit! Still, I’ve an intervening day in which to recover. Starting to think that, with the effort required to run up the hill, I’m finding it difficult to ease back once I’m at the top.

Anyhow, that’s my ninth ParkRun. With another race booked in October, it looks like I’ll be up to double figures by the end of the year!

Hi Damien, I’ve been walking up and down Welsh hills this week so no running. But I’m now staying with family so thought I’d trot round Redditch Arrow Valley parkrun today for a change. They’ve recently returned to their original course so it’s essentially twice round the lake and finish at the aptly named Stitch Meadow! They’re hoping to have pacers on the last Saturday of every month - today they ranged from 19 mins (😳) to 32! First home was 17:17, so yes, of course I was lapped good and proper! Everyone I spoke to was very friendly (natch, it’s parkrun!) and I came 291 out of 304 runners with a time of 45:11, which is pretty good for me (I walked a lot😆!)! Happy weekending folks and for anyone doing the London Vitality 10K on Monday, good luck and enjoy yourselves!

Hi damienair , tried to post earlier but managed to close the page instead of pressing the button to post, oops!I tried to be clever this morning, starting running about 500m before the Parkrun meeting place and ran round the park for a few minutes in an attempt to beat the Toxic 10, I think it may have helped.

As always I started slowly, a big gap between me and the runners ahead and very few people between me and the tail walker. I know I'm not fast but I am persistent. The course is two laps, with an uphill bit called 'the Slog' followed by a downhill. Lots of people walk up the Slog, so that's where I did my first bit of overtaking by running while they walked. After this I ran down the hill, making up some speed, then back towards the start. Saw my husband running towards me on his second lap, while the front runners overtook me on their way to the finish.

Second lap was more of the same, slightly quicker. Running down the hill after the Slog I overtook a woman who I've seen a few times before. She told me that whenever I overtook her she felt she had to speed up! I thanked her, she must be at least 20 years younger than me :) and apologised for making her feel that way. I overtook her and carried on.

Onwards towards the finish. Not many left to finish the run so a big cheer from the people waiting at the end. Put on a burst of speed to try and look keen. My second fastest Parkrun - 37'24" - something worked :)

My husband was pretty pleased with his run too, another PB 28:41 and his age adjusted score was faster than mine. A great start to the weekend.

Back to Portsmouth Lakeside this morning after two Saturdays away. To keep my volunteer total edging upwards, I enjoyed my regular car park marshal role - a little chilly to start with but extended warm-up exercises took care of that.

It was our parkrun's 6th birthday today and quite a few people were in fancy dress, but I didn't get the memo so was in my 50 shirt - might as well get the use out of it with the magic 100 looming up (91st today!). Good run, finishing with 29.36.

Another Valentine's today. My favourite course so far. C25K is definitely helping my stamina. I've just finished week 6 (the 25 minute run) and I was doing a lot more running and less walking at PR this week. Getting closer to my PB of 39.39. This week was 40.38.

Now that the weather is improving I might try a bit more tourism.

Very well done and I’m sure you’ll be getting a new parkrun PB again soon.

I’m just getting back to running after a five month layoff. Wanted to do around 35 mins for my parkrun this week. Our parkrun has pacers on the last run of the month, there wasn’t a 35, but there was a 33, great I thought, just keep him in the distance and I’ll be about right. So off I go, thinking it’s a bit fast but. Second to last corner I spot the 33 min pacer stopped and looking at his watch, I run up to him and he says, you’re well within the 33, keep going! So finishing time 32:40 and I had to run around for another 2+ mins to get my 35. Mr Garmin is not going to be pleased! Hey ho, you live and learn, it was a lovely sunny day though and it was my 25th parkrun. I also managed a volunteer spot too, doing the first timers welcome talk before running.

Fantastic running and very well done. 25 parkrun milestone, volunteering and getting in ahead of the 33 min pacer. Very well done again.

First parkrun for a couple of weeks and now into sub 36 mins. Really pleased since I started at 45 mins! I broke all my records on my Garmin too!

hi DamienIm feeling quite chuffed to day as yesterday I got a PB, 25:48 and I felt quite good all round, well the end sprint really did me in, but worth it to get my PB

😁. There's someone who I always use as my pacer and yesyerday I overtook him and finished 10 seconds infront. I've been trying to beat him for about 6 months now, and I guess yesterday was my day! Might be a one off, but gave me a big grin all day!

🤣🏃‍♀️
