Runniversary 1 year

Hiya,

Today 1 year ago I (re)started running with C25K. Honestly back then I could not imagine I would still be running 1 year later. I learned to run 30 minutes, afterwards 5K. Then I learned Jeffing, which caused me to love running even more. Distances increased and who could have thought that 1 year from starting C25K, I would be pushing to reach 10 miles aka running for more than 2 hours.

I must admit that it might also be this community which caused me to persist and keep running. You all know the experience of the toxic 10, a hard run, etc. You read through my whining and you all support one another. Luckily you all are here, because otherwise I think my family, friends and colleagues might have gone nuts with my talks about running.

Yesterday I ran another 5K - albeit a scary 5K due to an elderly man who kept talking to me for 30 minutes that in the end started to creep me out and it being dark in the meanwhile without there being any lighting in the forest and park - and this brought my year total of running to 570,9 km!

I am glad I (re)found running and that this time I love it!

Cheers, Evy

Happy runniversary Evy! One whole year and look how much you’ve achieved on this crazy, fun, and adventurous journey. I always love reading your posts, they are some of my favourites 🤩. And where else would people actively encourage you to dress up like a Christmas tree? I agree that without this forum it wouldn’t be the same at all, and you have contributed so much to it, so you should be really proud of yourself 😊😊😊🎂🎂🎂🌟🌟🌟.

Congratulations on your runniversary ☺️🎇Good luck with your 10 mile plan, it's something I'd really like to do so I'll be watching out for your posts.

You are so right about this forum I know I wouldn't still be running without it.

I hope you're next run it's a non scary one.

in reply to dijep

Thanks, I'm curious as to whether I'll make it to 10 miles myself too, haha. As for the scary run, I decided yesterday (coming home like a madman) that if it's getting dark, I'm running on my treadmill. No more scary men and darkness.

Well done Evy. 10 miles next. Stay healthy. I got up to 15K then reined it back but still did too much. I will get there next Spring, but first I need to get to 10K again.

in reply to Rennur

Thanks and yes, better take it slow (wish I would listen to this advice) ☺

Congratulations on your runniversary! This forum is totally the best, I agree. Sorry to hear about you getting harassed. Was he running too?

in reply to Fionamags

No, he was an elderly man of 78 years old who told his life story to me, took 30 minutes before I could get away. At first I was ok talking to him, but as he kept talking and came closer each time, I was feeling more and more uncomfortable. It was also getting dark and he asked weird questions like if I had a family and why I had no man and such. I was really creeped out by the end.

Fionamags profile image

Oh dear sounds tricky. He might have been very lonely and didn't realise how his questions might seem to you. Would you have been creeped out if it wasn't getting dark? It is horrible to feel vulnerable when you are out on your own though, isn't it?

in reply to Fionamags

I would still have felt creeped out, but as it was darkening, I was creeped out for the rest of my run and felt more and more unsafe by the minute. If he would have stopped sooner and not asked those weird questions, it might have been ok. But now I felt really weird.

Your intuition is always worth relying on - particularly when its about personal safety. Don't let that one incident undermine you though - its easy for these things to eat away at your confidence. That's what makes me angry about situations like this.

in reply to Fionamags

Yeah, it has indeed eaten a bit of my confidence. I have never been someone who feels safe-safe, but this made me feel even more unsafe to be honest. In any case, I am not going to run in dusk to dark anymore. My treadmill will be happy to give me some exercise then.
