My first 10k and the first time ever that I have varied my route.
I have been strengthening my legs, feet and back since I began couch to 5K and have run solely on grass round and round my little park.
Today I felt that my body was strong enough to cope with a little concrete so I ran through small roads and a canal to another local park which is very dear to me as the boys and I used to wheel my husband there when he was very ill.
Running on paths was a revelation as the ground is mostly smooth and I could take in the beautiful Autumn reds whereas as my grass route is full of little holes so Im more connected with where Im landing my feet.
I will see over the next few days if my legs recover well and if so will continue to venture a little further. My body feels great so far. Im slow, put pleasure first and generally am not out of breath at all and I like it that way so I will probably consolidate with a little more adventurousness in terms of terrain rather than time.
Happy running everyone!!

I honestly prefer concrete or gravel above anything else. I know it's not all that healthy, but I'm always scared to trip or sprain my ankle on grass or something non-concrete...
I find it so interesting how we find out about ourselves through our preferences even on which surface we tend towards. I hope i can include more concrete as it certainly delighted my eyes to look out. Looking forward to reading about more of your runs
Little by little- keep pushing at that envelope! Last night I ran to the neighbouring village. Then I had intended to run out into the surrounding countryside down a track, just another 500meters. I have to admit, I managed about 100-200meters before I got too scared and turned back! I'm planning to treat myself to a drive out to some woods soon (in the daytime).
Oh dear you’ve done well all this time to keep Covid free. Hope it doesn’t get any worse and contained. It must be pretty stressful in your job and glad that u got out on your day off and enjoyed your run, your friend also. Hopefully it’s helped destress and blow the cobwebs away and we bit relaxed. Keep safe.
Congratulations on completing your first 10K run, well done I am so happy to know that you are enjoying running, now go and celebrate your wonderful achievement with 🍷 🏃🏾 👍 🎓
