Hello Everyone,

We are going into week 8 now. How is everyone getting on? This week we will be on week 3 of moving across the Bridge. parkrun was back for me on Saturday, it was fantastic. This week our long run will be a 6.5 km run.

I have found that a nice way to build up distance is at a nice easy steady pace. So pick a pace which is comfortable for you over 5K and stick with that and even go a little slower if you want. This week we will do 2 x 5K runs and a longer run which we will increase by just 500 meters, so a 6.5 K run. Each week we will add on some extra distance to a long run, keeping the other two runs at 5K. Feel free to run your 5k at race pace, intervals or just relax and enjoy them at a nice easy pace.

So far in our gang we have, Devon_Straggler, Saratamsin, Raisemeup, DylanTheRabbit, Lablove, Kirst13, Tansycat, Foxile, MamaKeeves, Sammy_Lou, Popstess, Oldgirlruns, UnfitNoMore, Sueken, Joggingonthewildside, Tetleyteagirl, ThisGirlNowRuns, Knitruntalk, Howie1210, Meanmommab, Comaltdel, Tofino, kjm20, 51mc, berrinio, Tabbles

If I am missing anyone let me know. Also if any one would like to join in please let me know. All welcome. Have a good week everyone. Happy running.

Damien

Hi Damien, thanks for the update. I did four runs last week to catch up and I felt in need of a rest today! I did the delayed 5.5 km from the previous week, 2 x 5 km for the current week, topped off with 6 km yesterday. Took me 44 minutes to do 6.14 km and that felt okay. I’m finding it a good motivator to be on a shared schedule - thank you :)

Excellent effort and very well done on your 4 runs last week. Yes good idea taking a rest today. I was all set to go for a run this evening. But heavy rain arrived just before I left the house. I wimped out. So definitely tomorrow.

Hi Damien, I’m probably going to drop back a couple of weeks. My hip isn’t right yet so I don’t want to make it worse by pushing it and next week I’m going to Wales with family - lots of walking but no running. But I’ll be lurking and watching everyone else’s progress!

Hope your hip feels better soon. Enjoy your hols.

Your making the right decision. Rest up and make sure you stay off the IC. We will be here when you come back.

Thanks, I’ll be in touch!

Well, since signing up for this, the whole household got a virus that flooded us for two weeks, and annoyingly it wasn’t the big one (so we have no idea what it was). Then I went for a little run… came home, picked up some socks the daughter had finished with but would somehow crawl to the laundry basket and be fresh in her draw when she wanted them again (don’t you just love teenagers!) and snap, there goes my back… another couple of weeks out.

So… I’m back to trying to find the start of the bridge… and I realise I need to bridge and plank more as I have neglected those too.

Hoping to be putting my feet on the bridge in about 10 days now!

With kids back in School, the world opening back up again there are loads of bugs and viruses 🦠 doing the rounds. We have a little boy home from School with sniffles and a sore throat. My wife has a head cold too. Don’t worry. We will be here when you come back onto the bridge.

I just entered a 13 kilometre mountain race on the 20th of November.😂 Absolutely crazy, but I need a focus to train for.

I’m still watching for the dates of my little run next September… I assume it will be the first Friday, but if they could slip it to the last weekend that would be great 🤣

Hi, 5K park run on Saturday, today 6.25 km 9.20/km bit off the distance. Had ache in my foot outside of the arch so think I’ll have a couple of days rest then try 5K on Thursday.

Very well done. Your doing great. Hope your foot feels better in a couple of days.

I am just back in from my long run. Managed to add a little extra onto it and I managed 7K. I felt good. On Thursday evening I will do some interval training. Need to work on my parkrun finish time. 😀

I'm a bit ahead of you, but being in the gang is spurring me on. I've done a nice 60 minute run as my long run this week. It feels like a milestone, so I'll write a proper post about it later. It came to about 8k so maybe another 15 minutes will get me there?

Very well done on your 8K. You are doing great 👍. Being in the gang has spurred me on too.

Hi Damien and all Bridge Crossers. Only managed 1 run this week as I've re-joined other exercise classes. Today has been a beautiful sunny, warm day and so ran about 4pm when it was cooler. Across fields and paths, shady woods and on roads. Nice and steady as is my style, and stopped at 5.5k, felt quite spent. I think I'm best suited to at least 2 runs a week and will work on fitting another in..Good luck everyone, onwards and, hopefully, upwards. ☺️

Don’t worry about it. We all have weeks like that. Last week I only managed 1 run too. It was a 7K. Work and life got in the way. It happens.

I missed parkrun this week as my son was ill so only fitted in 1 x 5K, but just did the 6.5K in the rain. 6.54K at 7:06, which felt good, very pleased. I’m thinking now I’m running further/more I should probably invest in some better shoes - I’m in £12 Decathlon basic trainers at the mo, which I love because they’re so light but they offer little support for my flat feet - will no doubt while away a good proportion of Sunday now thinking about this! Happy running, everyone :)

I missed parkrun too last weekend. Family get together and a busy week meant I only managed 1 run but at least it was 7K. Good running shoes are a great investment. Buy them in an independent running shop.

Last week I metrothoridcally crossed the bridge, today I physically crossed it.Bit of walking up the hill 85m elevation.

Running has made me look at my city with new eyes.

For all of you on your journey, you can do it. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Crossing the bridge.

Gorgeous pics. Looks like the Clifton Suspension Bridge. I was there a couple of years ago with my Son. We had a lovely day at Bristol Zoo and the bridge. The following morning we ran at Eastville parkrun. Great running and well done.

Hi Damienair and gang, I’ve been plodding on trying to get 3 jogs( still can’t call myself a runner) in a week. I’m going for time rather than Km. This week managed 20mins 30 mins and 50 mins very pleased with myself as managed 6k today. It’s great reading everyone’s progress. Keep on jogging all.

Broken phone screen made posting too difficult. I gave up an attempt at a longer run 2 weeks ago, as not only was I tired but the kitten joined me and the dog and I was worried about her on the road. After I dropped her back, I really wasn't feeling it so gave up at about a km. The next morning I tried a new route and did loops and out and backs from near the starting point. I added 10 minutes to my previous longest run and reached 9k. A few runs between 3 and 6k since, couldn't fit in a long one and then today met my daughter in Kilkenny and we did the women's minimarathon together. I was quite prepared to walk the last km or so, but ended up running it all. My time wasn't much quicker than previous years, when I walked it, but I'm very proud of myself- I couldn't even do all the 1minute runs on couch to 5k in January!
