3K With Fartleks

So this was my first run since my 2nd jab floored me on Wednesday !

I can't believe it took so much out of me , the first jab was fine !

Ahh well, a small price to pay !

So today was my short run , my last 2 had been 10K then 5K .

I decided I wanted to play with Fartleks on this one as previously my short runs had began to morph into short and still slow ! And Mr Garmin has not been impressed .

It wasen't structured , it was just a speed play , as the title suggests !

Unfortunately it doesn't really show on the average pace for the splits as they were quite short bursts , the quickest being 5:55 and a one off, followed by a 30 second brisk walk and several slower spurts of enthusiasm 🀣

But good to occasionally fire the quick muscle response up πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

It was part of my usual route which has affectionately become known as the 'Bunny' 😁🐰

I certainly knew I'd done a workout !

I was really quite hot by the end .

So , home , water , stretches then a huge mug of tea while I sync with connect and write a post .

Oh, and Mr Garmin reluctantly gave me a year back !

Tight so and so 😐

Happy running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜

I think I understood what you were saying... 🀣🀣 it is all so very technical πŸ˜‡

Well done on pushing yourself, especially after jab no2. Sounds like you had fun and felt invigorated.

Enjoy your rest day 😊

Fartleks are easy and don't need anything special. Just pick a landmark not too far off and speed up until you get to it, then go back to your previous pace. Do as little or as often as you like.

Not necessarily easy 🀣

I meant technically. No preparation either.

Haha, yes I realise that πŸ˜πŸ‘

Hey! a year back is not to be sneezed at, when I did fartleks my age stayed the same and on yesterday’s long run I aged 2 years

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Haha, yes Mr Garmin has a habit of that gives you a year then takes 2 back !😁

No worries, my fitness age is still 20 yrs below my real one

Instructor57 profile image

Oh, I've got a bit to go to make that claim 😐

Last year after I’d been very unwell and was recovering I ran my first 8k and Garmin put my fitness age at 79yrs I was gutted πŸ˜‚

Well a year younger and another 3k in the legs - good job! My VO2max hasn't changed in ages. Maybe a sign I need to get out more???

It does like it when you mix the runs up , l short and quick usually helps 😁

It's half a bunny!Sorry to hear you had a rough time after your second jab. Just think of all those lovely little antibodies going round and round inside you!

The run sounds like fun. Mr Garmin is a hard taskmaster - he absolutely hates me at the moment

Yes the jab completely knocked me off my feet , I wasen't expecting that 😐Ahh well, it's worth it 😁

Yes it was a fun run , tiring but I enjoyed it and managed to dodge the showers πŸ˜πŸ‘

Too bad jab 2 got you badly. I only had a more sore arm than after jab 1. Jab 2 made the inside of my arm hurt plus my armpit glands. But that was all over after a week. Only still have an itch where the jab was given. But you were able to run! That is good!

I like doing a few fartleks myself too. Not on all runs, but at least once a week for 10 minutes of a 30 minute run. I like the unpredictability of it. And I think it is healthy to do it once in a while.

Yes, took me 3 days to get over it , I wasen't expecting that ! Ahh well I like the unstructured approach to Fartkeks , I did the NRC one a few weeks back but that was too structured for me 😁

in reply to Instructor57

A predefined fartlek is not a fartlek in my eyes. I like deciding 'oh nice garbage can, let me speed up from there till that lantern pole over there!' approach πŸ˜‰
