3K for Mr. Garmin ☀️

Lovely sunny, chilly early morning run! Thought I’d do a shorter run this morning. Still needed my lightweight jacket and not yet warm enough for shorts, I set off at 7.30am having been distracted chatting to my brother. So I forgot to do my stretches and stopped halfway through my warm up walk to do them.

Off I go and set off a little too fast, but I’m just going with the flow this morning. 2nd km is a little slower than the first as it’s slightly uphill. I miss the flatness of the fens but I do feel I’m making progress with the slopes.

As I’m running, I hear the whistling of Red Kites calling to each other. I look up and see them soaring and circling, familiar sounds and sights of this area. One spots something and dives down to investigate; I’m able to catch a glimpse of the markings on the top of his wings.

3rd km is a little faster as it’s downhill, but looking at the stats it was quite a slow run this morning. Mr. Garmin, however, was mightily pleased and rewarded me accordingly!

Back home for stretches and coffee! 😊

Oh Mr Garmin loves you Jools😍😍😍Top 5% and only 22!!!

The Red Kite is a most beautiful elegant bird. How wonderful to see them on your run.

The Red Kites are beautiful and it was because of them that I became interested in photographing birds in flight.

Thanks, Diane 😊. I probably have at least couple of hundred images of Red Kites, taken from the garden where I used to live before moving to Norfolk.

Well done Jools , and rewarded by Mr Garmin !I don't get these Vo2Max numbers ?🤔

Mine shows as 37 but in the green labled good , I guess the numbers are different for male/female ? Who knows 😁

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Instructor57

Yes, they are - and I’m older than you! Nowster posted a chart and it seems it’s a lot easier for me to achieve these numbers, perhaps because I’m not expected to 😂

Ahh, perhaps I need to transition 🤣🏃🏽‍♀️

Mr Garmin is sexist 🙂 I only get “good” for 38...,doesn’t he know how ancient I am 😂😂😂😂.

Well done Jools 👏👏👏👏. I love red kites. Mainly confined to motorway corridors up here, so it has been a while since I saw one. We saw them everyday when we stayed in a mountain side villa in Corsica; Called Milan Royal over there of course. More in keeping with their regal bearing.

It's ageist too. I have to get 44 or more to go from Good to Excellent. Superior would be 49 or more.

Thanks, Beachcomber 😊, I enjoyed that run this morning, with the Red Kites for company. Time to get my camera out again, methinks!

Definitely; I am off to the river tomorrow; dippers buzzards herons and maybe a kingfisher if I am lucky.

Great stuff -- ignore any scientific claims your Garmin makes about your "calculated vo2 max". The only way to find out what your vo2 max is, is to go to a clinic where they measure how much oxygen your lungs consume whilst exercising. Take the Garmin number as motivation, its a very rough measure of your fitness (if you run less and/or slower, it will likely go down and vice versa if you run more and/or faster).

Vo2max is simply a measurement of how much oxygen your body can consume, and is measured in litres per minute. For example, Chris Froome (pro cyclist, multiple TDF winner) had a vo2max of 84.6 when measured in 2015, and in that same year he won the tour de France.

I do know this really, but it’s nice to believe the Garmin figures when they are in my favour! 😉 I need all the help I can get! To be told by Garmin that you have a fitness age of 22 when you are 67 is amusing 😀 and of course I don’t really believe it.

See what moving has done for you Julia, age 22 now!! Naughty, forgeting your stretches 😉😉 hope things are ok, i'm lagging behind for our 10k, lot's going on, need to get a run in tonight. 😀

This was my first run this week, so I’m lagging behind as well. I can’t find a 10K route that doesn’t involve a steep hill. Going to try a slightly longer run, 7 or 8K, at the weekend.

you could find a flat stretch and just run backwards and forwards on that 😉

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Haha yes, I could, but I think I’ll just repeat my 5K route - not quite so boring 😀

Mind those hills!!! 🥵🤣At least they'll make you stronger!

You’re catching me🤣 I was too pleased when I made the purple. I need to work on my age of 20 though if you’re 22 😂

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to RunWillie

I think I was 20 briefly when I did a really fast 2K run! I only remember to look at if someone else posts something about it 😀

RunWillie profile image
RunWillieGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

I’ve been 20 forever in the world of Garmin. I should be pleased that I’m not 80 really with all my slow running 🤣

You’re obviously a more consistent runner than I am 😊

Thank goodness I have a Fitbit and don’t have to worry about my age! 😂

Drove up to Hay on Wye this morning, saw lots of Red Kites on my journey. They have been seen as far south as Cwmbran...but I’ve not seen one here yet 🤞🏼

Great to hear you’re getting to grips with those hills!

🏃🏻‍♀️👍⛰🥰💪🏼

We had a discussion about Garmin fitness ages at work today. It seems the lowest it ever goes is 20.

(Curiously, I'm on 23 currently - until the next long run - but only on "excellent", not your "superior".)

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to nowster

Interesting! I wonder if you can get to 20 yet not make it to ‘superior’.

RunWillie profile image
RunWillieGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

I was 20 before I was ‘superior’. Good to know I’m never going to be a teenager again 🤣
