Unexploded bomb stops play...

So this morning was supposed to be a long run. I hadn't decided how long, but at least 10K.

Left the house at 9ish after the usual internal debate about what to wear. It's cold, but sunny... Just as I was leaving we took possession of my father-in-law, who's been evacuated because of the unexploded bomb. Anyway, I got to the end of my road to find a policeman stopping people from going towards the uni. I made a joke along the lines of 'but were OK up here' and he said, rather ominously, "yes, for the moment". It transpired that we'd know by ten. So I decided to come home and pack a bag. Came home, quick chat with hubby, didn't pack a bag and went out again, but changed my plan to staying local.

Well I ran for 2 minutes, and saw someone I knew and had a 2 minute chat (bomb talk), then I ran approx 1km and bumped into a lovely couple I know, who flagged me down for a chat. (Bomb) Half an hour later (!!) I extracated myself from the conversation, have up on running and went home. (Might have to pack a bag and go) So my long run turned out to be 1km and 2 chats.

Might go out later...

Ah - but chats are so important in these lockdown days!

Wow that certainly is a dramatic reason to stop your run 🏃‍♀️It'll certainly give everyone a new non covid topic of conversation.

Hope you don't have to evacuate not the easiest thing to do during a pandemic.

Oooh that hill up to the Uni is painful! But at least you are safe!. Better luck tomorrow.

Yes, there's no flat room home up here!

Well, that's certainly a novel reason or cutting short your run!

I hope the Army disable your local bomb quickly Lizcanrun so that you can get on with near normal life again. A good excuse for your Dads visit though. Enjoy it while you can.

My kid lives at Birks, he was really cheesed off he wasn’t allowed to have a look at the bomb.

Have you seen the video of the explosion? Apparently there are 100s of broken windows! Our house shook!!

Yes, he doesn’t know if his room was affected. I hope it doesn’t rain before they manage to get boards up. There must be private houses on Glenthorne Road and nearby with broken windows too, maybe even further. I hope your house wasn’t harmed by the shaking, it was a whopper of a bomb. Fancy it’s been there for up to eighty years!

I think they're hoping people can go back tonight...

Ooh. Some days are just weird aren't they? PS I think that's probably the best excuse I've heard for not running 😂😂

Good grief - that was unexpected! A bomb? Where was it and why? You can't leave us hanging like this.

I think the 'controlled' explosion was less controlled than they hoped. Lots of damage. No one's allowed back again tonight.

Lucky nobody got hurt.

We also had one this week on Formby Beach. Looked innocuous. It was also detonated after 11 hours of emergency services assessment. There’s quite a crater now. And WW1 ordnance is still killing people on the battlefields sites. The casualty figures rise every year...
