Thank goodness for the ability to go for a run. Having been sold the idea that the vaccine rollout will allow our lives to return to more like normal, this week appears to be taking us in the opposite direction - lockdown until at least 8 March, hospitality closed until May, borders closed (will I ever see our French house again? 😢), quarantine hotels under guard, grandparents told that they can’t see their families even if they have been vaccinated. Blue Monday wasn’t just 1 day this year!
Anyway, week 4 was a mixed bag. Temperatures ranging from -2 to +10, surfaces from ice rink to paddling pool - 3.29k, 5.02 k (not) parkrun, 3.42k, 5.02k, 7.22k without ice 🙌, 6.02k and 6.5k for a total 36.49, 1.24k more than last week. I have now done 124k this month. If I’d planned it properly, I could have made 150k, but I really don’t want to do 26k in 3 days. Next time 😂😂. 3 more days to go. I think I will quite miss it, as I’ve enjoyed it in a slightly disturbing masochistic way. Good luck fellow REDers for the last push!

Sandie, you are a superstar to achieve a run everyday with everything the weather has thrown at you this month. In comparison, I have done 50k so far, so feel very very proud of yourself.
Taking each day as it comes is the only way I can cope with the current situation, but I know that with each day we are are getting closer to a new normal. I am so glad that running is still available to us as it gives us time to completely switch off from those news bulletins and political soundbites.
Enjoy those last 3 runs, and then celebrate your achievement anyway you can.
Fantastic effort, 3 days will pass in a flash. Sorry you are feeling so down about the current restrictions, I do believe we are in for the long haul. Is it bad that after 5 weeks of not seeing baby hugs I was delighted to have to look after him yesterday while daddy hugs got ready for his new army posting. I was not popular that I let him sleep snuggled to my shoulder for an hour🤣🤣 happy running 🤗
You're so right Sandie. I think we are all thankful to be able to go for a run, more so than ever. I'm so impressed with people who choose to do RED January. Well done 👏👏
Ahhh brilliant Sandie! Great running. 👏👏 I have mixed feelings about RED ending actually. I’m in a very solid routine at the moment (run/walk/yoga every day).
I think the fact we’ve done the challenge in this absolutely shocking weather is amazing. Go all of us! 👊 We’ve had pretty much every element nature can throw at us. You’ve had ice to contend with, I’ve had mud. Again we’ve done a similar mileage this week (38.77 for me), and I know I’ll miss it next week. I might keep going! 😳😅
Well done you😃 I’m not going to keep going, but I am going to keep doing yoga (not that I can actually bend myself in some of the directions😳) and I have invested in some Aldi resistance bands so will do a workout on non running days. I do need to go out every day, though, so will also start walking more again.
Not sure I really get the spiritual side of it, but the deep breathing is quite calming and, yes, I think I am getting a little more flexible. Neck and shoulders have become a bit looser since the start of the month too 😀
Brilliant! The yoga is so good for you and so much more interesting than post run stretching.
Actually when I was out earlier I couldn’t think of anything better than a rest. My ankles are shot and need a rest so I don’t think I have a choice. I’ve got a new winter coat that needs to be used a bit more than it has so walking more it will be for me too...just for a bit anyway!
Well done Sandie! I think RED has been the perfect antidote to this month, talk about pulling the rug from under us. Your French house, my workplace!! And don’t get me started about the kittens...
Sunday! I hope you’re going to have a slap up meal to celebrate, it’s certainly been a challenge.
Congrats on the mileage too - is it the most you’ve done in a month? It is for me 💪💪💪👍👏👏👏
Roast pork and sticky toffee pudding on the menu for Sunday dinner 😋 It is the furthest I’ve run in a month, although total distance including (at the time) dog walks was higher in May last year. Something to aim for if (when 🤪) I do it again 😂
That is amazing, well done for keeping it up, nearly there now I’m with you on the vaccine news, i was so disappointed because we had a feeling once we’d had our vaccine we’d be able to take our mask off at work but oh no 🤦♀️ now we need to be even more careful due to the new variant
I am so impressed with you running everyday (but I do know that when you set your mind to something you will see it through) and in January too. Nearly there! As for the rest of life it is truly pants, I keep trying to look on the bright side, but it does seem to be getting dimmer everyday. So glad I have a Bestie like you to keep me sane!
Wow that is so impressive!!! I think we are all on the same page re lockdown and COVID. I think it chips away at your resilience as time goes on. But .... the swallows will still come and we will party like youngsters when this is all by. I might try a rave - no idea what that involves but it has an outrageous name 🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant work Sandie; I couldn’t have done that for sure. I really like the sound of your well earned Sunday lunch. Can practically smell it 😋. Maybe when I have lost a bit of weight....,,
Ok, that's it.........75kg this morning.....got to become 72 before the end of February. Loads of lovely left over Christmas cake is part of the problem...nobody came home of course. Too much comfort eating as well. Time to get a grip!
When I first read that I thought you were going to run 75km 🤣🤣🤣 Dry January failed dismally, so maybe Dry February will fare a little better and Xmas chocolates have now all gone
Well done, my mileage is only about half of yours but am enjoying the RED routine - home from work, change, run,eat and then relax. It’s also a virtual “ link” to my daughter living in Glasgow so helps me feel connected to her in this strangest of times. We’re aiming to carry on into next month. I’ve got virtual Edinburgh 10km to do today, so better get up and get started...
Well done you.... It has been a long and tasking Red January for many! You have done incredibly well.. Who knows,, the vaccine hit or miss routine will settle into some semblance of order, and maybe we will find ourselves in a new reality.
Thanks Floss 😊 Just cancelled our ski holiday after hearing France is closing its borders to all non EU travellers from midnight, so any last flicker is extinguished 😭😭 Yes, the vaccine really is our remaining hope for normality
Well done Sandie! I have mixed feelings about the end of RED January. I’ve loved running every day after work as it’s kept me sane what with working from home. I’ve got into the habit now and I might have withdrawal symptoms from not running. But, I can see how important rest days are and look forward to having stronger, rested legs.
Thanks Tasha. Congrats to you too. I know what you mean, but, equally I’m looking forward to a rest day. I’ve bought some resistance bands so am going to develop a workout for non-running days in Feb and keep up the yoga!
