My first steps towards 10k... 6.6km

Hi guys!

I graduated from Couch to 5k late last year and was up to CR19 when I was told off for running more than 5kms xD So now it's time to start posting here! I'm running the streets near Maidenhead in the UK late at night (usually 10:30-11:30, to avoid the apocalypse) and don't have great pace just yet - anywhere from 8:30km-9:30/km but I'm slowly working on my endurance and distance. Considering I was a couch potato late last year and am now doing these runs every couple of nights rain or shine (not snow though because I will definitely take a tumble) I'm quite proud of myself!

Tonight was a 6.6km run after a few days off to avoid the snow so it was a little tough but I got it done, I have a route I run around the outer edges of Maidenhead and I usually listen to a podcast or Spotify playlist while I run. I'm going to keep at this distance till it's routine and maybe up the pace a little - if you have any suggestions on a program that'll get me to 10k I'm keen to hear it. The couch-to-5k app was great but I don't know if there's one as comprehensive for 10k - I use Strava right now.

Hi pr0fess0r, welcome! For getting to 10k, Ju-Ju's Magic Plan worked brilliantly for me. Here it is: healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...

Hello there pr0f and welcome. Ju-Ju’s Magic Plan for me too - I did the timed version but will definitely revisit it for the distance version when the weather improves. Good luck

Haha yes JuJu's magic plan for me too! I did the time version first, getting to one hour non stop, and have just started the distance version. Lots of info in the pinned posts. Good luck!

Another vote for the Magic Plan from me. There is a timed version that takes you to 60 minutes running or a distance version that takes you to 10k. I reached 60 minutes running by myself on my consolidation runs so did the distance version. I mixed up my runs on it and used the short run each week to do some speed work or an interval run or maybe some fartleks. But lots of people on here got to 10k on their own by gradually extending one run a week over a period of time. If you do that remember the 10% rule.

Whatever you choose good luck!👍

I use the Nike Running Club app which has helped me get to 10K and beyond.

Another vote here for the Magic Plan! I graduated C25k with 3.3km for my 30 minutes, so after consolidation runs, I started on the timed plan, reaching 60 minutes on NY Day. I’m now gradually working through the Distance Plan...up to Week 4.

Listen to your body, work at your own pace and enjoy!

Hi Prof

If you’ve got a Garmin watch I’d recommend using their Garmin Coach feature. It got me to 10k and a HM last year.

and 6.6k is great, seems like you’re well on the way to 10k.

Noel.

Hi there,

Bit of a theme here- I vote for Juju's magic plan too!

Like you I started with C25K and after a bit of consolidation moved on to JJMP , first timed then distance. It progresses in nice easy steps to get you to your goal.

As someone who needs a plan I have really enjoyed the journey. I still find it hard to believe that I can RUN 10k. It's all thanks to C25k, JJMP and all the incredible support on this forum.

Whatever you decide keep on posting and enjoy your running!
