Keeping on with the comeback

Another 30 minutes in the legs today - didn't want to go out and had to swat a few fatigue and motivation gremlins out of the way before I could make it to the door. Was glad that I did though as I won't reclaim the magic until I push through the Puff Gathering stage and get a bit fitter. No - I'm not going too fast, in fact I'm slower than I've ever been and am just focusing on gentle plodding in a vague running motion to build up stamina.

For the first time in quite a while there was no ice on the roads - yahoo! But that meant that I couldn't blame the roads for what showed up on Strava afterwards, dammit... :)

Still - it's another run and its good to be getting out there again!

Result 😁 I have envy as currently having to lurk at home. My last run was Monday. Great you are getting your running legs back and see you on the road.

Alas covid isolation so pacing round the house to try to get some miles in. That sounds too grand. I just stand in the hall and pace while I watch bob ross! I miss the out 😔

Oh no! Hope you're OK.

Yep tested negative but staying in just in case .

You’re doing brilliantly. My comeback runs have been deliberately slow - like you, I don’t think I’ve ever run slower - but We’re both running Fionamags, and that’s a win. I’ve just finished tutoring my last pupil for the day so it’s my turn to be brave and get my bahookie out there 😬 before it’s gets too cold 🥶., plus the forecast for tomorrow is pants!! Xx

You are right! Getting the motivation is hard at this time of year as well, isn't it? Enjoy your ploddle.

Well done, it’s the getting out and doing it that counts. If you can do that mid January think how lovely spring running will be. Happy running 🤗

Thanks. I am so looking forwards to it!

I think there might be a plague of fatigue and motivation gremlins, they’ve been buzzing around me this week, the cold wet muddy damp weather here is totally uninspiring. I wandered around for the half day yesterday in my running gear and then went to get changed! Oh dear 🤣. Still felt so sluggish this morning, took me until midday to get out the door but tried to bear in mind what Adriene says about yoga, just turn up. You’re doing great with your comeback, slow is good, getting out there at all even better. 🤗🤗

Well done, you got out there. That’s what matters. I’m admiring your motivation from the couch. (Actually I walked 8km through mud today. A bit like running on sand I suspect).

Good job done swatting those gremlins 👍and another good solid comeback run by the sounds of it.No running for me, dodgy knee and it snowed all day yesterday so we're back to slip sliding everywhere.

Oh dear - dodgy knee doesn't sound good and the snow is definitely not conducive to gentle comebacks. Take care - you'll get back to it! Xx

Good on you! 👍

I did half an hour of walking today with a few little bits of jogging. My knee is starting to get to the point I can do a proper run again. (Last run was Monday last week.)

Welcome to the Comeback Club! We'll spur each other on. Gentle joggles, short staggers and all else with a running intention will be duly celebrated!!!!

Well done on that 30 mins, interesting that you stopped running for 7 weeks, was this work related, or just lack of motivation, with the dark, cold weather? 🤔

Work was horrendously stressful. I work in a university (teaching & research) and the sector has been hit hard. Lots of people getting a quiet tap on the shoulder and disappearing and everybody's workloads going through the roof. I'm probably fairly safe given my research grants but suddenly getting extra work thrown at you and seeing colleagues leave makes for a bit of a perfect storm. So I was very stressed out and although running would have been a way to ease that, instead I ended up glued to my desk hammering away. Not really sure how it stretched so far but I wasn't even going out of the house for days on end. Looking back I was probably mildly depressed. My husband was great at dragging me out of the house during the holidays and that combined with the break helped to break the negative pattern and get me in a more positive frame of mind. Now I'm determined to get out every day for a walk or a run and be wary of sinking into that slump again no matter how busy I am. Its difficult times for everyone really, isn't it? I'm just lucky that I still have a job.

Sounds like you've had a rough time of things, as i guess, alot of people have, in these strange times we're in right now, like you say, and i'm the same, just lucky to still have jobs, but at least your getting out a bit more now, running has given me a new lease of life really, long may it continue! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️😊

Brilliant, well done! The pandemic puts everything into perspective so just running, any distance, any time, is so good for the body and soul!
